PD oil is this any good?

Featured Replies

Hello chaps

I can get oil for £12   its labled as suitable for VW 502-00  505-00 AND VW 505-001 and Ford Galaxy 1.9 tdi

Can this be used on an ATD 100PD

Cheers

Your engine must have oil that conforms to VW spec 505.01

On paper the oil you mention is suitable, but at £12 I'd be dubious as to it's quality. Where can you get it for this price? If e-bay it is probably fake. Correct oil is critical on PD engines.....you run the risk of wearing your cams prematurely if you skimp on oil.

Why take the chance and get the proper stuff that the dealers use http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=1354

The original factory shop mexborough

That place looks like a general household DIY shop. I wouldn't buy my oil from a place like that but it's your choice.

It says 505.01, so on paper it is ok for a 1.9PD.

Thanks Brooke

4.5 ltrs for £12 for oil that 'meets or exceeds' the required standard means it's not actually been tested to the correct standard, but the base stock has at some stage before additives and packaging. It's costing you £0.0025 a mile for 5l of genuine 507 certified oil of a higher grade from VAG's own oil brand, your option is £0.0012 per mile. Personally I'd go genuine, but you can put what you like in :)
