Knackered tyres

Featured Replies

Put 4x new tyres on the skoda vrs last year and had the car aligned etc to make sure all the tracking was ok.It was sawtoothing badly when i got it.All was fine till last week and 5000miles later and the car has ruined all four tyres on the insides on everywheel.Been back to the tyre place today to have some part worns fitted as i darnt buy new again and they checked the alignment and its perfect.....What do i do now as i cant afford to run a car that destroys a set of tyres in 5000 miles. The car hasnt been incolved in an accident and doesnt get driven that hard most of the time

Cheers :(

what make  tyres  did you ruin

Falkens mate i know some makes are a little more prone to wearing badly than others, just put a pair of yokohama paradas on it ,can see them wearing badly to as they do this on my cosworth :(

Mine wrecked the rears by sawtoothing. Plenty of tread left but horrible droning noise.

Had them aligned and they've been fine for the last 10k miles but I think it's starting to happen again. Car going for trade in next week so not doing anything.

When I researched the problem there was a body of opinion on the web that tyres with a tread patter that featured large blocks were more prone to this than others.

The Maxxis tyres had/have on certainly seem prone to it. But I was only affected on the rear tyres. Fronts are fine.

Are you getting checked on a Hunter rig. Might even be worth going somewhere else in case the first place is getting it wrong.

Yeah gonna try it on my mates trackin gear next week mate,i seem to remember people saying there are some revised settings for the tracking???

Mine sawtoothed the back really bad on Goodyear efficigrips. Put them on the front but anything above 75mph and they shake the car to bits.

Surely yours is down to alignment all round though? 5k is nothing.

I had mine done at ABC in pudsey as they had a good review by people oh here, that was 20k ago & recently mine has started to drift to the right & im getting tyre noise from the rear at low speeds so i will be getting mine done again, they had the best gear & all the latest settings........im sure all the poor roads & blooming potholes have something to do with it......i went down middlecroft drive in strenny today mate.......that road is terrible......potholes everywhere!

Yeah its terrible Mikey, dunno where to turn with this tbh but can see it costing me.....thought you were parting with the vrs?

Nah,decided to keep it now & run it till it dies, hoping to move house this year & need to save money & i want to keep the mini & pug so cant justify a new motor. The vrs is running like a dream & doing all i want it to so its staying. Some bloke waved at me when i drove down middlecroft drive................i think he thought i was you! lol.

How well was the tracking done?  I know of a reputable garage with experienced mechanics and with all the right equipment, but who still didn't do a very good job of it., and the customer subsequently suffered bad tyre wear.

Did you get a computer print-out of all the settings, before and after the adjustment?  If not, then possibly all they did was the basic (and crucial) check on the toe-in.  A proper alignment check is far more than that and really needs a skilled, experienced and dedicated technician with all the right kit.

Having read lots of posts on this sight regarding poor tyre wear I noticed that the problems always seems to be with expensive well renowned tyres. I can imagine some of the comments already but I run on budget tyres (50 - 60 quid a corner ) and have no problems. rears 14000 no sign of excessive wear yet, fronts just changed  after 15000, mixed driving.  Does this mean anything, do more expensive tyres have softer compounds for better grip, financially are they worth it.
