Have I done my brakes right?

Featured Replies

Changed my front discs recently and I've been waiting for my new wheel badges to arrive.

I've also put on a set of 16" Spiders at the same time but I've noticed the gap between the 'hub' and the edge of the centre wheel hole is longer at the front then it is at the back by about 5mm. Is this right or have I done something wrong when fitting the discs?

Pictures enclosed which may help with arrows to indicate.

They are different shaped wheels, so yes the gap is different.  As long as the centre bore of the wheel is the same as the old wheel, it'll be OK.

Bernie - can you clarify? What you mean by different shaped wheels? I'm unsure if we are talking about the same thing. It may be me not being clear enough though!!

Chip

different offset maybe?

It's due to the different hubs front to rear, fronts have the driveshaft in the middle :)

If you had got something so wrong changing discs your wheel would have fallen off by now!!!

yes I know I'm paranoid! Its the first major thing I've done so just needed some reassurance.

The design and shape of the wheels are different, it's not a problem.   Lots of fabia 1 owners fit these spiders and they do look good.

Just to clarify Chip you've done everything right.

as coskev says the hubs (the bit that sits in the centre of the alloy) is different front and back so sits in the wheel a different amount.

With regards to the wheels please stop calling them spiders.

The "spider" name is used for Octavia VRS wheels

From those pictures you've fitted Fabia VRS alloys.

I'm not sure they actually have a name :)

Cliff, I stand corrected! You learn something new every day. I know the design is different to the Octy's but just assumed they were 16 inch spiders as opposed to 17's. can't believe they don't have a name though.

Thanks for the reassurance too. I'll be sending you a PM later about the badges....
