Wind Noise / Rattle Over 65MPH

So, my car has developed an interesting wind noise rattle that starts once I am travelling over 65mph.

 

It seems to originate from the passenger fan outlet nearest the passenger door.

 

I have been unable (without removing panels) to locate the source of the noise but must assume that it is wind caused. If this is the case, what could it be.

 

The interesting side note is that i only noticed the noise after i had the windscreen replaced as it was cracked.

 

Any ideas?

I had a similar issue when I had the windscreen replaced on my Nissan Qashqai, the wind noise became really noicable. Luckily I was a month away from part exchanging the car with Skoda to get my new car otherwise I would have taken it up with the Autoglass.

Is it possible it's not properly sealed properly in one corner and the air is causing a rattle?

Thats possible - i don't know how to check this before calling auto glass and having a moan!

I noticed the same on a courtesy car (Octy 3) used for 3 days.

I think it is the plastic cover (outside) at the bottom of the windscreen.

This cover ends has some curved limbs (or what) both left and ride side at the A pillars.

On that couresty car the left limb was in the air and didn't touch the windscreen.

I tried to bend it a little bit in many directions on the 3rd day morning and the noise was gone!

I think it was some resonation caused by this plastic. The noise came from the bottom left corner of the windscreen.

The story ends here because I gave back the car.

Happily no problem with mine.

Apply some temporary adhesive tape there and let's see what happens...

Mine looks this:

It's touching the windscreen but not touching the body.

On the right side it's touching the windscreen and partially the body, too.

I'm also experiencing the same rattling noise as well on a 1 week old Estate.  To me it sounds as the noise is inside the car, but it's really hard to tell.  I need a passenger to check it out.

Having played with the plastic part to ensure that it is the same as the drivers side, the noise has stopped. It must have something to do with the plastic windscreen 'holder' or whatever you would call it vibrating at a certain wind speed. 

 

Been quiet now for over two weeks...

I have the same noise on passenger side - sounds like its the lower corner of the windscreen - first thought it was the wiper - but sounds stays in same place if wipers are activated. My noise starts at 80 mph. Does anyone have any pictures of the problem piece of plastic?? The links on this thread come up with 404 error.

problem now solved, tucked first 1" of trim under body work, this worked a treat. it appears the driverside trim is flush to body work, the passengr side trim has approx 3 mm gap - hence wind noise at high speeds

I'm having the same issue with noise from the mentioned area at higher speed.

Could you elaborate on how you fixed it, don't understand what you did to fix it - could you maybe take som pictures?

Did anyone find a solution to this or get any luck raising with skoda? Mine has the same gap on the plastic on the bottom of the passenger side creating a noise at above 65mph

I have a MY19 now and I noticed this problem immediately when it was new.

I used a hair dryer to soften the plastic and I applied some pressure with a rag to reshape the plastic. Be careful not to overheat the plastic and leave the texture of the rag on the plastic like me. I don't really care about how it looks now, problem solved. 😀
