Rear Cycle Carrier - Non VRs

Recommended Posts

Dear Fabia owners

My wife has an old Fabia SDi and since I've shattered my collar bone and cant drive my son to his cycle meets in my Octavia we are looking at getting a cycle carrier to fit her car. I believe this is a problem for VRs's due to the spoiler but not so for lesser models. Not keen on roof bars as she cant lift the bikes that high.

Been looking at these in order of preference.

Any one with experience good, bad or otherwise greatly appreciated.

And, yes, smashed my collar bone coming off my bike. Rather nasty high speed incident.

TIA

Nic

Hi Nic

Sorry to hear about the incident! Have to say I was in a very similar situation to you last year after a very similar incident! Hit a pot hole on the bike on a descent, flipped over the bars, snapped my clavicle and shattered my shoulder blade! http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/286022-broken-collarbone-surgery-or-not-hmm/

Bones do heal though (well, mine did with the aid of a few pieces of metalwork haha) so wish you the speediest of recoveries! :)

Regarding the bike rack though, I work in a bike shop in Northants, and have fitted many different racks to different cars.

I have to say my personal favourite is the Saris Bones rack. Slightly more expensive at £130 (for the two bike version) but so worth it IMO.

Extremely light weight so very easy to lift when fitting it to the car, and very customizable as the arms of the rack can be adjusted to suit the contours of the car you're fitting it too. (This is also useful for storage as the rack can be folded down very easily)

Also comes with individual bike loading slots which are spaced well apart from one another to prevent damage between bikes and car.

It isn't as high as some of the racks you provided links for, but considering the amount I've sold to customers in the last 5 years, I have not had one come back to me with any issues!

Hope that helps a little! :)
