Bolero unit won't connect to Nexus 5

Featured Replies

Just picked up my Octavia vrs, it's a 2009 facelift model. I tried to pair my phone with the Bolero unit, but it says my phone isn't compatible??

Anyone any ideas on how/if I can resolve this?

The phone is running the latest android software

Thanks

It might be that you have an rSAP bluetooth module but the nexus 4 doesn't support rSAP out of the box.

What part number is on your bluetooth module under the driver seat?

Is this what you mean?

If not this was attached to the underneath of the seat

That's the one (the first picture).

Your module is rSAP only (remote sim access protocol).

basically it connects to the phone and takes control of the sim car and uses it's own GSM antenna etc.

You have 3 options:

1. The cheapest and simplest method. Root your Nexus 4 phone and install the rSAP app from the play store

2. Buy a new phone that supports it out the box (most Samsung phones and Nokia Symbian)

3. Swap your module to one that supports HFP (Hand Free Profile)

Here is a list of most modules and what they support etc:

The plot thickens! Turns out as I updated to android 4.4.3 my phone will no longer work with rsap, due to the updated radio from Google. I'm just doing a nandroid backup, so that I can flash the previous radio which should then work.

The car did try and connect to my phone, but nothing would work, so I'm further along!

Who would have thought Bluetooth would be this difficult?

There is a trial one to install first.

First install this app:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android_rsap.rsapinstall

Open it and install the system files then reboot.

Then install the trial:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android_rsap.BluetoothRSAP

To ensure you can pair with the car etc.

You then have to buy the paid version for £7.49.

I searched for ages and couldn't find a free solution.

OK so I thought everything was working, the phone connects straight away now, but after 5 minutes of driving I get no network connection.

Is there anyway of stopping the unit using its own antenna and just using the phone signal?

Rather annoying as I can't use my data connection either, which makes maps useless

I'm afraid the only way around it is to change the Bluetooth module to one that supports HFP (hands free protocol).

Your unit is rSAP only.

Strange that you're not getting a signal. Check the antenna connection on the unit.

Phil

rSAP does that also use the car bluetooth antenna rather the phone signal??

It makes calls for the first 5 minutes, then no signal, if I switch Bluetooth off and back on, works again for another 5 or so minutes

Yes that's right. It basically hands control of the SIM card over to the Bluetooth module in the car and then the car uses it's own antenna etc to make the calls. Whereas normal Bluetooth uses the phone to make the call and routes the audio through Bluetooth.

Did you in stall that RSAP app? If so it sounds like you are on the trial version which times out.

I'm on the full version, the trial one would disconnect the phone from Bluetooth and you'd have to restart the app.

I had exactly the same issue and had to download the bluetooth keep alive app from the play store for an extra £1 but has worked faultlessly since!

Ah that could be it.

There is a setting in the RSAP app about keeping it alive.

Its really weird, I did a factory reset on my phone for another reason and it cured the Bluetooth issue. It connects now and stays connected, it's odd getting text messages on the MFD.

I'm still tempted to change the unit, as I like to have a data connection too, will keep checking eBay for a cheap one

Strange. At least it's sorted.

And yeah texts on ther maxidot are weird.

I only got an RSAP unit as it was dirt cheap on ebay.

It wil be a quick/easy swap for a new module anyway so just keep your eye on ebay.

Is this what I would need?

That's the one.

That supports RSAP, HFP, A2DP (music streaming) and wifi hotspot.
