Steering adaption after controller change

Featured Replies

I've just swapped a BC steering controller for a CH with the same part number in preparation for fitting a MFSW. Both controllers are for Type 2 angle sensors.

It's a pre-FL 2007 Octavia.

Everything seems OK (i.e.CC still works) with two provisos: I can't adapt the steering angle sensor to get rid of the fault code and the steering feels very heavy and a little unpredictable!

Steering Wheel controller shows no faults.

Steering Assist controller shows it's not adapted.

I can't access channel 060-G85 adaption. It says not available!

I've tried several variations of 'Left-Right-Centre-Drive straight' with no effect.

The new controller has different codes to use to the old one. Does this mean it's not compatible?

Is it just because the SW version is different? 0111 as opposed to 0070?

MOT expires on Saturday, so I need it sorted before then. Worst case scenario, I put the old one back in. But given how much of a faff that is if rather not.

Still got heavy steering and an amber dash light that I need to sort quickly.

Any ideas?

All fixed now and back to normal with no light!

I had misread the instructions on this Ross Tech page and hadn't driven the vehicle in a straight line with the Basic Settings Group 060 activated.

Once I had done this, I started getting feedback from the steering angle sensor (i.e. what angle it was turned to) and was then able to complete the rest of the adaption process without incident.

VCDS to the rescue again...

Thanks for posting that feedback. It could help others.

No problem.

It seems so stupid that I didn't drive the vehicle a little with group 060 'active' and didn't spot that the setting kept deferring to 'off' until I did.

This is something the Ross Tech Wiki does not mention! My 'drive' consisted of going forwards and backwards in a straight line on our driveway (about 5 meters) a coupe of times and then carrying on once I noticed that the steering angle sensor was giving feedback to VCDS.

Hopefully someone will be able to make use of this information (if they search for it) should they need it.

This may be an ancient topic but it just got me out of the same situation :)

Thanks for posting it!
