Prep for claying

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I want to clay my car and am comfortable doing it. To prep in the past I have just washed with hot water and fairy liquid to try and remove any old wax / sealant.

Could anyone please advise me of the process for preparing to clay? Thanks

When i clay, i like to wash using a car shampoo.

Iv just bought some dodo juice born to be mild.

Fairy liquid scares me too much because of its ability to corrode.

Im still very much a novice though, and will be very interested to hear what others say :).

As recomended when I asked what to do before rewaxing I snowfoam 1st, rinse then use farcela detox shampoo with a squirt of APC and fairy in it to strip off the old wax, rinse followed by ironx to get rid of any ferrous contamination rinse then tardis to remove the tar, rinse again folowed by another wash with a normal car shampoo. This should make claying easier and quicker.

Using Iron X / Iron out and also tardis will reduce the effort needed for claying.

I spent an hour on an Audi A6 with these two chemicals and in the end claying took about 30 minutes.   Claying from the start I suspect would have taken a couple of hours as it was a massive vehicle.

Jason...Ade just said that

Always clay AFTER detar and iron fallout remover

Twice is better than not at all. :P

Thanks guys, I don't have Tardis or ironx tho. I do have Astonish bug and tar remover so I'll use that instead with AG shampoo and a squirt of fairy liquid. Cheers
