vRS/Bolero/DAB/USB Charger problem

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

As soon as I plug in my 12v USB charger thingy, the DAB radio cuts out. FM is fine, so is all the other audio. I have two identical chargers and the same thing happens with both.

Unplug the charger and DAB returns. Most disconcerting as I like to listen to BBC 6music. Any ideas?

Cheers.

I assume that this is a cigar lighter type unit with a USB socket on the end?

It may be due to very poor quality construction and the unit is radiating an RF signal.

Unfortunately, many of these products from China have very poor design and do not suppress RF emissions as they should to conform with CE marking.

You may want to try another (recognised brand) unit to see if this does(n't) have the same problem.

Thanks John. Physics was never my strong point!

Yes, it is a cigar lighter USB charger.

I don't know whether it was from China (I'll have a look after work - highly likely it is), but it was a very cheap e-bay purchase. I went for this one as it is 2.1A rated and, consequently, can provide charge faster than my phone running sat-nav can consume it. Unlike the standard charger. :-)
