Vrs cambelt stupid question

Featured Replies

So it's due by age only last time I had the steel water pump and new pulleys so it's done 15k tops

Do I just replace the belt or the whole lot??

It's your money.

Having said that, I certainly wouldn't replace a 15k water pump if it wasn't leakng unless you've got 5 or 6 times the run hours the mileage would suggest on the engine. I'd apply the same logic to the tensioners and stuff, but rubber can "go off" just from age so I'd certainly have a look at the belt and check its width as a measure of how used it is.

That was my thoughts to be honest seems silly to replace bits that haven't been used

Do it all at once for peace of mind

My car is 13 years old and 110k miles.cambelt was done twice,2nd time 2 months ago, water pup was replaced once 2 months ago.And the were in pretty good shape

Had mine done on wed £350 inc aux belt tensioner I had gone 4 yrs 22k between changes thought about leaving it for another yr but it was on my mind so I had it done

It's not so much money as I'll be doing it myself I can't help but thinking the only reason Skoda would replace all those parts after a few thousand k is for the money

If your fitting it yourself then id leave the water pump alone but fit a belt kit which comes with idler & tensioner pulleys.

Upto you, sods law says itll spring a leak or something odd if you dont!

See both sides but there's no reason it should leak?? Maybe a better question would be how much wear occurs to the pulleys in 15k??

At the end of the day mate its about peace of mind.  Totally your call!
