Head restraint

Featured Replies

I've driven nearly 1000 miles in the last 10 days, mainly just driving my 08 Roomster for the joy it gives  . I have just one tiny niggle. :|  No matter how I adjust the head rest, it's just a bit too far forward. Previous cars have had some fore and aft adjustment by 'rocking' it on the stems. Am I suffering because I have a particularly large or odd shaped head? :D  Or perhaps someone else has noticed this problem and has a solution.

Hello Mike, yes this bothers me too; I think you can withdraw the restraint completely and re-install it back-to-front, but I recall it then feels too big a gap twixt bonce and restraint!  Might be worth a try.  Or perhaps try a disability aids shop, they may stock a back support cushion, I use one in my work van, it's hot though in hot weather! It's foam in a fabric casing, maybe 2" thick at the top, perhaps4" thick in the lumbar region.                                Used it in previous job driving Merc Sprinter minibuses.

I also currently use a ventilating lumbar support in the car that came from Asda, though that doesn't bring the upper back further forwards.

Might be worth measuring the centre-to-centre distance between the two metal "spikes" that support the restraint, measure the forwards-offset from spikes line to head contact point on the standard Roomster restraint, then ask via an "all models" part of Brisky whether other VAG cars' restraints have less forwards offset, and source one from a breakers; or if you've a handy breakers, take tape measure and go hunting!

Our 2104MY Scout has the leany-forward ones, non-adjustable except as to height.

Neither of us has had any difficulty, but we both have the backrest somewhat "reclined". The back of my head is a good inch off the pad in my normal driving position.

I can visualise it being more of a problem for anybody who drives with a near-vertical backrest.

I've done 200 miles in the seat and found it comfortable, if anything more so than the 'armchair' in our Outlander.

Thanks for the suggestions and comments and I'm glad I'm not alone in this. :whew:  I do prefer an upright driving position which does agravate the problem.

I have ordered a used 2001 Fabia head rest from an E-Bay seller. The rod spacing is the same at 150mm and, from the photo, it looks flatter than the current one though I'm not sure if it has fore and aft adjiustment. I thought it was worth a few quid to give it a try and I'll report here when it arrives.

The Fabia headrest arrived this morning and is just the ticket.  When pushed back on the fore and aft adjustment, there is just the right amount of clearance behind my head.

BTW, superfast service from Pilsdonautos on Ebay.
