Changing Glow plugs

Featured Replies

How easy/hard is it to do?

Making some tweeks with VCDS on the wife's Touran the scan showed a faulty glow plug on cylinder 2.

They're not expensive parts and I wondered how easy they are to change.

Is it as straight forward as the you tube tutorials suggest?

Seems all I need is a deep 10mm socket, tourque wrench and some wd40.

Any advice welcome

If it's a 1.9tdi nice and easy if it's a 2.0tdi have to remove the cam cover so make sure no pinching of the gasket etc or it'll cause big leaks! The 2.0tdi wiring loom can be bit brittle as it's swimming in oil so be carefull when removing you'll need needle nose pilers for them!

If it's a 1.9tdi just get it nice and hot and then spray some wd40 on the treads (or as close as you can to the treads) and let soak in for 2mins then get at it!! Think they are only 10-11nm tight!?

Hope this helps dude

It's a 1.9tdi so happy days I'll give it a go!

If it bothers you, then as above except please use a dismantling lubricant like PlusGas rather than Water Dispersant formula 40.

That said, the 1.9TDi will start for years with no issues beyond a little white smoke with 1 or even 2 plugs down.
