Machine Polishing

Featured Replies

I want to start machine polishing cars, and wanna really do mine. Now ive been told off a few people that the rotary machine polishers, you cant go wrong with as they cant burn paint or make holligrams is this true?

And can anyone recomend a machine polish starter kit so i dont ruin my black car?

Nope, this is not true, Rotary polishes have a fixed orbit and high speeds creating high temperatures and are relatively easy to cause the kind of damage to paint only a bodyshop can fix.

However luckily DA or Dual Action Polishers are fairly easy to get to grips with if you do your research before use and are far safer to use.  I suggest looking at the Mike Phillips and Junkman2000 Youtube channels for this andother detailing tips.

I wholly recommend the Cleanyourcar DAS6 Pro Dual Action Polisher http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing-machines/das-6-pro-dual-action-polisher/das-6-pro-dual-action-polisher/prod_673.html there is the option of using DW05 code for 5% off or the group buy code DAS6GROUPBUY for a reduction to £99.00.

As for pads and polishes, I have found the Chemical Guys Orange, White and Black pads plus Meguiars 105 and 205 polishes is a very complete kit to work with, the Junkman covers their use rather well in his videos.

Any questions drop me a PM or better still, contact a mod to get this post moved to the car care section and watch the info come flooding in.

All the best

I think they're probably referring to the random orbit polisher like a Porter-cable

I think they're 110V only so you do need to fart around with a transformer.

Rotary polishers are very good for burning your paint.

Just for disambiguation as many terms get used for many things.

Dual Action and Random Orbital mean the same thing.

The old Porter Cable was hugely popular but has been superceded by the likes of the DAS6

He covers the basics very well in an easy to understand fashion.  What I like is that he is all about demistifying the art of detailing, not to everyone's tastes on DW but as a place to start learning, it's tough to beat.  Take a look at Mike Phillips too.
