VRS rear ended

Featured Replies

White van man rear ended my lovely VRS this morning, gutted :(

Damage is rear bumper, tailgate and a little bit inside the boot. Don't think either of the rear quarters are damaged. Car is an 02 plate with 120k, I'm only the second owner and it was nearly mint before the smash. Has anyone been in a similar situation recently, did your car get written off or repaired?

I replaced all four tyres with 225/45/17 Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2s at a cost of ~£400 only a few months ago - so if it does get written of I will be happy to swap my wheels over with another brisky member with cash my way. PM me if interested!

02 plate on 120k, i'd be highly surprised if it's anything other than a write off tbh. Sorry.

That was my thinking too. Unfortunately there are many things that insurance companies don't consider - seems to be just age and mileage.

Youll get the chance to buy it back. Hopefully you could pick up the parts needed for repair cheap enough assuming the boot floor is not ceased

Don't think the boot floor is creased but there is some structural damage to the rear behind the tailgate, bumper, lights and interior plastic. It will need more than just a new tailgate and bumper and I don't really have the time to do something like that myself. Would be a shame to see it written off and scrapped as the rest of the car is still good.

Buy it back and sell all the bits you don't want and put all the bits you do want on another one

Agrees! Bad luck mate, takes the Michael when this happens. This is the reason I'm getting an agreed valuation on mine..

Post some damage pictures

I would agree it is more likely a write off. Cost of parts and labor verses  the market value would take the repair over the insurance companies worthwhile percentage level.

my 55 pkate was. written off 3 years ago bought it back and stripped it as rear quarter was crushed and bootlid and boot floor

here a photo from rear lol

That pic isn't my car ;)

My boot floor is fine, rear quarters look fine. Mine will need tailgate, bumper, rear panel (metal bit behind bumper) and a couple of interior trims. Garage I took it to yesterday said it's quite labour intensive to remove and replace the rear panel. I expect with courtesy car the total value of the claim will be close or more than the insurers deem my car to be worth.

if they are going to want to fit new panels (which an insurance approved repairer will) and the rear panel needs replacing as said due to the labour cost it will probably be written off.

If you take it to get jigged, and give it to a local garage who can panel beat and spray (true bodyshop) then you can probably get her repaired and saved.

First repair quote has come through - £2400!

Should have an engineer coming to see it next week, then my car's fate should be decided...

Still not sure if I want it repaired or written off. I think probably written off and I keep the car. If anyone is interested in buying it to either repair themselves cheaply or to break for spares then let me know. :(

Colour is it?

Is the rear panel actually required to be replaced if hidden behind a bumper?  Not structural is it ?

Silver.

To do a proper job yes, if you were going to DIY it and not worry about it being right then maybe you'd just try and bend/bash things back into shape and just replace the tailgate and bumper.

Car is getting inspected by an engineer on Thursday.

If you intended to keep it, why not try and buy it back for scrap value and use some of the cash for the value of the car to fix it?

That might end up being my best option. Extra hassle to get it fixed myself after a payout though and it means it will be registered as a cat C/D. Feels like even though the accident wasn't my fault I'll probably still end up somewhat shafted by it! I will be pushing very hard for a fair payout or for it to be repaired.

I can see it being written off due to low book value versus cost of repairs.  Pretty sure if its 50% or more they do that?

Assessor came this morning. He also noticed that the rear quarter has been pushed forward - reducing the panel gap slightly to the driver's side rear door. That damage and a couple of other things were not included on the quote I got.

Just have to wait to see what silly offer I get made for it...

If anyone is interested in buying the car for spares/repairs let me know. :(
