Key not working

Featured Replies

My Fabia came with 2 keys, but the remote on one of them doesn't work. I thought it was the battery, so I replaced that, and did the bit in the manual - press button on remote and then open door with the key within 1 minute or 30 secs (can't remember off hand) and it still doesn't work.. This is a bummer, as SWMBO has the key that works, and If I use the key in the lock, and get in, it triggers the alarm..

What options do I have? and any likely costs?

Unfortunately not - car is 5 years old

One of my keys did the same, i replaced the battery but it still didnt work so i took it to the dealer and they tried to re sync it with the car. But they couldnt get it to do anything so replaced it under warranty.

Try getting the dealer to re sync the key with the car it might work for you.

found this, it's for an octavia, but am going to give it a go tonight and see what happens:

One of the remote keys ("flick-style") on my Octy vRS stopped working a while ago and my dealer ordered me a new one. As my dealer is miles away from home and work they sent it out in the post and talked me through the re-coding procedure on the 'phone. This has appeared elsewhere in the forums but the procedure listed was a little vague.

Having just done it successfully two minutes ago I thought I'd pass the correct procedure on - maybe this could go in the FAQ ?

Put your working key in the ignition and turn the ignition on (but not the engine).

Put your non-working (new) key in the drivers door, turn and hold the key in the lock position (anti-clockwise) and press and hold the lock button for two seconds.

Then turn and hold the key in the unlock position (clockwise) and hold the unlock button for two seconds.

Turn the ignition off and take the key out.

Job Done !

Answering my own post but.....

Turns out the key had the wrong kind of battery in it in the first place. Took appart the other key and got a matching battery, and hey presto! I now have 2 keys that work!
