CAVE on a MAHA dyno + figure

Featured Replies

Poor CAVE engine on a bloody hot summer afternoon of 31,8°C ambient temperature. Any guesses??

172bhp? I have always noticed a lack of power on really hot days. CAVE engines must really not be mapped well for heat. Or the IC just cannot cope with spirited driving in hot conditions.

183 bhp

Very good, that's what I would suppose, 174-5 maybe.

However i deliberately did not mention the ITG intake being on, here's the graph:

(excuse for the pic, i dont have it in pdf and i've no scanner as i'm on holidays, also i got no pc, can someone make it a direct photo link plz?)

185.4 i must say i'm impressed. The dyno guy reckoned if the car achieved that under those conditions it would have made it to 188-90 with an ambient temp of 10-15°C. Thumbs up for the ITG or maybe the CAVE is not as bad as I thought. Well, not bad but you know, all that CAVE vs. CTHE comparisons lately had me thinking it's a dead horse, lol

Tomorrow's job: IC upgrade...

Ambient Temp 6 - 12 *oC on 99 ron, & standard filter it is up above 185 bhp when run in.

177 bhp / 180 ps is the given Minimum Output figure on 95 ron & can be a figure for high temps and high altitudes.

Near sea level, near normal temperatures, good fuel should always be higher than the Manufacturers Minimum given Power figures.

I had seen CAVEs as low as 178.9 in colder temps so i'm definitely crediting that extra power on the ITG if i'm honest. Of course the best would have been a direct back to back but the stock filterbox is a bit big to carry in your boot during holidays, lol

Better a Dyno that shows low rather than high if not dead accurate IMO.

You didnt have yours Dyno'ed before though did you?  That is a pity.

They had a cooling fan for doing Dynos did they not?

Yeah a stock run would be great but as i said filter box is too big for holidays! To be honest, i don't care so much about the absolute figure, i only did this in order to have a reference for after the ic + stage 1. The dyno guy had run a few cupras and polos though there and seemed to be impressed with the result, especially given the conditions. And that is also my impression based on graphs under colder temps, that's all.
