Heating with Heating 'off'

Featured Replies

One for the techies among you. I enjoyed a leisurely drive yesterday with windows down and pano roof open (have I mentioned what a great option the pano roof is?) and switched off the climate control altogether.

Yet I noticed warm air coming out of the dashboard vents....any idea?

I'd expect there to be a bit of air flow through the vents even with the system off, just from the movement of the car. If the intake is anywhere near the engine there may be some heat there, plus the dash absorbs a lot of heat from sunlight, part of which will be transferred to the air system.

That is what I thought, maybe because of the 'draft' from the pano roof and the open windows, warm air is sucked through. Not something I noticed before in other cars though.

If you turn the climate off in anything other than LO the heater matrix will still provide heat residually depending on how hot you had the climate set to. My O3 does this as did my Mk2 with 2 zone. Is completely normal.

To prevent any residual heat coming into the car set it to LO before turning it off to ensure you are getting nothing but outside temp air.

If you want positive shut off on an O3 you can also turn on the recirc whilst the unit is off which is a nice touch; turns off upon next ignition and has to be reactivated again. You couldnt do this on a FL Mk2 with climate and it did my head in!
