oil pressure warning light and loss of power skoda superb

Featured Replies

Hi all i have a Skoda Superb 2007 plate ,today when i went to the shops the beeper went and the stop motor ,oil pressure warning sign came on read manual , i drove about another mile and    my  skoda started losing power wouldnt go above 25 MPH  i had to get green flag to take me home as i was afraid of doing damage to the engine the green man said it was probably an oil pump problem, i phoned the local garage up and i was quoted £1,678 for replacement ,any advice would be   helpful

Is your car a 2.0 pd tdi?

hi yes it is

Oil pump and turbo renewal me thinks sadly for you. My sons car, same year as yours did it last year. It cost £1400 using a specialist VW locally. Add another £400 ish for a main dealer.

You may be lucky and the turbo will be ok but again sadly I doubt it.

i bought this skoda superb because i thought they must be good cars as all the taxi men have them ,life eh

Unfortunately you bought the one engine in the range that has a major issue. I'm sure others on here can describe the issue better, but in summary as I understand it the oil pump on your engine is driven via a hex shaft / drive that rounds off leading to the oil pump no longer turning and a destroyed engine.

If you try searching this forum you should find other examples of your issue and potential options as to how to proceed. Try searching for oil pump or balance shaft

My son's car had done a similar mileage as well, sadly.

only done 78.000 miles as well

If you had taken it to a Skoda Main Dealer, you might have had a chance of getting contribution from SUK as the car has covered <100k.

is it possible to swap the faulty engine for the one that doesnt have problems or does that cause the engine management system to be inoperative ?
