Hi Guys, I'm in trouble Wife's Octavia has an immobilizer problem any tips it's draining the battery and not starting

Featured Replies

Hi guys, Wifes Octavia 1.9dti on a 2007 it's just stopped working..

Wife's dad took it to the new Forest and it drove fine.. got there had tea and cake went to start it ......... :-(

It turned over but just didn't want to fire up..

When it did start it went a few yards and conked out..

They had the RAC would with his computer and he stated its like the car is not talking to the computer??

Anyway as I surf and have a VW T5 I have a spare key that is just cut to open the vans doors but once I started the van and it drove for like 20 yards and then stopped and cut out.. so much the same way..

So I'm thinking it's the immobilizer that's at fault..

I'm tempted for £15 to go and get a 109 relay ( I know it's prob 20-30% a possible issue ) but still it's been known to cause issues.. But as I have read up quite rightly the power is getting to the ECU to even start the car up..

So any one else had the same?

My mate has it at his garage and he can't get it on the computer long enough to do anything with the codes because it throws it's toys out the pram and shuts down talking to the fault reader :-(

Any ideas, thanks in advance.

Mean While my little old 1.6 Petrol Mk1 Octavia is still going strong and I love it... Starting to the think the more simple they are the more reliable they are... but hey ho....... trouble is i want to get it fixed ASAP because the wife's not driving my Octavia OH NO she's nabbed the keys to the Pimped VW T5

Surely if it was the immobiliser it wouldn't turn over at all let alone start reluctantly then stop.

Perhaps disconnecting the battery for a while may reset the electronics.

I had the same experience with an Audi A4, car would start (sometimes) and work for 5 seconds or so then engine would die.

The problem turned out to be the wiring from the pick up coil for the transponder in your car key to the immobiliser.

Took it to Audi, at first they said no one had had that fault before but when the 4th person phoned up while I was there with the same fault they then admitted it's common!!!  £15 later and all fixed.

Not saying that's the problem with yours but as it probably uses the same VAG parts it could be.

Or...... with the ECU not communicating perhaps there's a canbus issue affecting the ECU & Immobiliser.

Yeah I hope it's not that but having said that if it is then I guess once the computer can get in it we can clear it or better still delete it.

It did have a funny fault with it that we lived with..

when you turn the car off the windscreen wiper motor just jolts

Battery also drains to flat

so it's been off the car for a day being re charged on the bench.

Does the alarm siren work?

If it was the immobiliser then the yellow key light should stay on and it should only run for a few seconds.

It is not the immobiliser

If the immo doesn't work properly, the car will turnover and nearly start but cut out. so a couple of seconds

Under normal conditions the cluster looks for the signal from the Transponder key, once received it clears it for the engine to start. Once this is done you could take the key away (if you could) and the engine will continue to run without the key
