Rust would this be covered under warranty (pics included)

Featured Replies

I know this is not a Skoda but want some advice if possible, I have an 07 Auris and have noticed today that there is rust forming on the body structure under the front radiator. It appears to be the panel that the front bumper bolts onto but there are also holes with no bolts that have started to rust. I have attached the pictures and wanted to ask if this would be covered under the 12 year bodywork/corrosion warranty from the Manufacturer.

The car has a full Toyota dealer service history from new and has always had what it needs regardless of cost but seeing this on a seven year old car quite shocked me. I only noticed it as the sun was shining through the grill and at first I thought it may of been an air con pipe but not part of the body of the car. I have called my Toyota dealer who say to phone on Monday.

Am I likely to be told its not a body work corrosion warranty issue as reading the body work warranty it says it must rust from the inside out? The bumper has never been removed or damaged.

Am I worrying over nothing? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had rust on one of my rear passenger doors on my kia. Rang the garage, they took photos and kia approved the work. Providing it has been serviced and the paint check done annually it should be OK.

Thanks for the post - The car does have full service history with paint checks but not sure if they look behind the front bumper for rust.

Not bodywork so very little chance I would say.

It's worth a try, if for no other reason than starting a history on the problem.  I've been told in the past that it only covers rust-through so you may need to wait a few years and hope it either doesn't get any worse, or that it gets much worse quickly so they'll replace the part.

Your Toyota paint warranty is probably expired,

& as to a Bodywork Corrosion Warranty,

see if it is for a Holed Panel.  It is in the Toyota wording.

Maybe you will get a Good Will Gesture, maybe you will get the Corrosion dealt with under Warranty.

But it has been there for some time now & some Rust Inhibitor applied a long time ago would have helped,

& will still help if it gets done.

Dremmel, Kurust, rattle cans and a brew. Happy day up the garage :D

Thanks for the replies everyone - I have contacted the local dealer and sent them the pictures this morning - I got a call back to say they have raised it with head office as it shouldn't of rusted in the way it has especially around the holes that don't have any bolts through them.

They said they will be in touch once they have heard back from HQ - Why would they have contacted head office? I will keep you posted.

Sounds about right. They will have to get approval for any work to be carried out by the warranty department..usually at HQ.
