Some vibration on idle

Featured Replies

So, the last couple of weeks I've noticed some vibration when idling. Usually smooth as anything and engine is very quiet at idling as most of you know.

At first, I thought it was just because engine cold etc but it's still doing it after a few miles of driving, well I pull up a lights etc. Did think it could be exhaust but past MOT / emissions test recently. Any ideas? Maybe needs a service

Has it had New Spark Plugs,

the Air Filter looked at and changed if required,

and a ECU Software Update at any time in its life.

& run on 98 Ron Fuel or better,

ie Tesco Momentum 99 or Shell V-Power Nitro 99 ron.

Hi George

I am going to get it serviced next month Anyway so hopefully it is just down to that. will change plugs, air filter etc. Unsure when air filter was last changed and I've got no history on the plugs. Ive not looked at them yet.

I've got 25k miles on clock and wanted to change them as a precaution due to plugs burning out before 40k.

I've run it on Tesco 99 for the last 10 months. Waiting for a call back from dealer regarding a software update! It's prob never had one IMO

Cheers

Todd

New Spark Plugs & the correct gap will be enough hopefully.

Do you have a torx bit to open the air box and see if the air filter looks OK.?

Cheers George. I've have got a set of Torx. I've got few days off from tomorrow so I'll have a look at it. Maybe just try and give it a bit of a clean?

Mine does this sometimes, eventually sorts itself out after a few mins or if you raise the revs slightly for a few seconds.

To me if feels as if the idle revs are too low like it's about to stall, is that the sort of thing you experice todd?

If the idle is at 800 rpm it is correct. Start at 1,100 rpm and down to 800 in 40 seconds or so. Smooth is right. Lumpy / rough / uneven is wrong.

You've not had an ecu update recently have you? What year is it?

Yup mate, sounds pretty similar. It's kind of a judder. Can feel juddering from under seat, can feel it every few seconds or so. Never used to do it :-(

2011 bud. No recent update. Just waiting to hear back from a dealers to see if can get hooked up.

Its very subtle in mine. I'm not bothered though as everything else is fine and performs as expected. I'd be interested to know what the outcome of dealer investigation is though.

Mine started doing this after an ecu update. Apparently it's a symptom of cold starting with the car trying to get the cat hot quickly by injecting more fuel.

It's probably worth checking it out with the dealer but if it's otherwise ok, I shouldn't worry too much. Misfiring when moving with lights coming up on the dash would be more of a concern.

If it does not do it before a ecu update but does after then that is a bit of a clue. Before was right and after is sh!t3

With my old engine it was fine until it had new plugs and an ecu update then a very slightly lumpy idle (not a misfire a lumpy over fuel type of lympyness) when cold for a few seconds when at 1100 rpm if you raised the revs or it went to 800rpm silky smooth. This bothered me a little but the dealer said it was fine. A number of months later due to unrelated issues it ended up with a new engine, plugs, coil packs etc and it still does it very very slightly when cold for a few seconds. So i wouldnt worry about it, some do it,some dont.

I've just tested it now. It was exactly as you said it should be. Started at 1100 then dropped to just over 800.

Will let you know! I'm still waiting for a bloody call back from them regarding some warranty work. Trying to get an answer for last 3 days. Going to call Skoda tomorrow instead of the dealers.
