Need an iPhone 5s/Lightning cable that works with the Swing

Featured Replies

Hello

Struggling to find a suitable Lightning cable that will work with the iPod/iPhone interface on the Swing radio in my Rapid Spaceback (I have the module below the A/C controls with a USB port and 3.5mm Aux input).

I know that I need a cable that plugs into both ports, and have successfully got the cable from my sister's Mini working in my car (She has an iPhone 4S and her cable is a genuine BMW one with Dock Connector on one end and USB+3.5mm on the other). I've also managed to make her cable work with my phone by adding a genuine Apple dock to lightning adapter to the end of it. However, I'd like to avoid the high cost of that solution if possible.

Today I received the following cable that I purchased from Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Goliton®USB-Interface-Adapter-Series-lightning/dp/B00JUNOGTO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412162221&sr=8-1&keywords=bmw+mini+iphone+5

It doesn't work - phone sees it as an unsupported accessory and MDI won't work with it, so no iPhone control via radio.

Can someone please point me in the direction of a suitable MDI cable that will work with Lightning connector iOS devices, but won't cost an arm and a leg.

Thanks

Chris

Wrong connector, as I said in the first post, I have the USB + Aux MDI interface:

Might not be the cable that's at fault if I remeber think the 5s needs something daft like 3.1amps to power it and that little usb socket might not have enought power to do it

Try cable in mains/laptop see if that works

There is no issue with power (when plugged in it will happily charge he device, just won't provide control). It is definitely the cable at fault (in that it's rubbish).

Like I said, genuine BMW cable works perfectly in the Skoda (charge and control) - but would appreciate any tips on non-genuine USB+3.5mm to Lightning (+3.5mm) cables that actually work fully in our cars. Genuine cables of this type are hideously expensive, and am very surprised the audio system in the car can't pull digital audio from an iPod or iPhone over USB.

Thanks

Chris
