Coolant tank

Featured Replies

So last week or so the wifes car keeps coming up on the dash telling me that her coolant is low level, as soon as the car warms up its fine though.

- Checked coolant level and its ok

- Cant see any leaks on the system

- No cross contamination in either the oil or coolant as far as i can see (so helps rule out a possible head gasket issue!)

- Took a resistance reading between the probes with my multimeter and got a high resistance between them through the liquid

So based on the above i lashed out a massive... £10! for a new tank :D

Bought some new coolant (this costed more than the tank lol ~ £12 for 2L bottle)

All came and fitted it earlier today, results below.. and annoying low level light on dash is now gone! :D

I suspect what happened was some crap from the rad had settled in the tank at the probes and caused the original problem!

Thanks, but this actually is a FAQ with VAG cars.
