Sub enclosure help

Featured Replies

Right I need to make my own sub box for my two 12" subs. Im quite handy with MDF etc but what im trying to work out the capacity of the box.

I know that the volume of a box is worked out by length x width x height but what about a wedged shaped enclosure that is wider at the top than the bottom.

The reason for this is the limited space I have behind the seats when the cab is closed is larger at the bottom and I need to use as much space as possible to get the capacity I need. (approx 40 litres).

And how do you work out sub displacement?

If you like Ross, give me some figures and I'll work it out for you with my maths!

If its a simple wedge (triangle profile), then work out the volume as if it was a regular "box" shape and half it.

If its a sloped top, then take the box dimension separate from the wedge, and add them together... if that makes sense...

Like I say, if you need a hand drop me a line.

Yup.

Do volume of box which is an equal sided quadrilateral, then treat the sloped end as a separate "box" and half the total length/width/height.

1 cu.ft is 27 litres (if my rough calc tapping is ok.... :D) so you'll be looking at a 1.5 cu.ft box for that sub (I assume 40 litres per sub?)

I guess one obvious thing to say is when measuring make sure the width of the timber being used is taken into account. ;) Might be teaching Gran to suck eggs that. :D

40 litres would be for two subs.

From the Rockford site..

" If you're working behind a truck seat (wedge type enclosure) add the top and bottom depth together and divide by 2 to find the "average" depth."

Perfect Andy

Thanks for the help guys.
