I'm fairly new to Detailing...and over the last couple of years, have done a few, but Ive never had a challenge like this before

...well perhaps one...Sorry ChrisW your Fabia was in this category.

This car belongs to my Neighbour's Daughter

She has been wanting me to do it for some time. This morning she asked again.

Its scratched and swirled, some deep, some requiring wet sanding (I dont do that) ....but mainly swirl removal

She didnt want the inside doing...just as well..Its was like a Farm Yard!!!

 

A usual Wash, with Tar remover, Clay Mitt, door shuts, wheels and it was ready for the paint inspection and a decision on how to proceed

This was what I was up against:

The whole car was like this and worse

Suzuki paint is slightly harder than Honda paint (Soft/Medium) ..so nothing aggressive

Started with a Medium pad and Menzerna Finishing polish...This didnt work so well

So decided to do a two stage polish with Sonax Polish and finish with the Menzerna

Here was the bonnet after a Stage 1 polish:

As you can see, still deep scratches left, but was sure that Stage 2 would minimise them a little

This was the tailgate:

Notice some slight marring from the Clay mitt.

Cracked on and went around again with the finishing pad and achived some fair results

Certainly better than it was

 

 

 

Finally applied Bilt Hamber Autobalm to the roof via step ladder!! Most durable sealant I have

Rest of the car with Poorboys EX-P Sealant and topped a while later with Sonax BSD

Should see it protected for a while

 

Thought I did quite well to finish it in time for Dinner...It was getting dark

Mandy (The daughter) arrived and was chuffed to death.. I wish I had more time to do the inside and the engine...Maybe another day...The interior will need a day at least!!

That looks great Chris! If I hadn't have bought my DA before you started professionally I'd bring mine to you. But I want to do it my self now I have the DA and see how bad I am at it first. :yes:

These are the ones where I would practice small area wet sanding. 2000 / 3000 grit with plenty of soap and frequent checking gives good results. As you said "Just practice".

Restoring sheds is always more fun! Looks like a great job. Check out this beyond repair paint on this mgb. Had big scratches to the primer but he wanted another year before a respray so I really let rip on it. Ended up looking quite respectable. A little extra contrast on the after pik might be making it look a little better though :-P
