2001 Y-Reg Fabia 1.9TDi Comfort Estate

Featured Replies

Well the time has come to finally put our Fabia Estate up for sale after thirteen and a half years of ownership.  Pictures are linked below along with a potted history…

It was bought new by us in March 2001 and we took delivery with just 6 miles on the clock.  It is therefore a one-owner car and, until 2007, acted as daily transport between Sheffield and Alderley Edge.  Since then it has had an easier life doing local mileage with runs once or twice a week to Doncaster and Leeds.

It’s a 1.9 PD TDi, with the ATD engine so pretty much bullet-proof, and currently has around 136,700 miles on the clock but has been well looked after.  The mileage will rise by about 50 miles a week at least for the next couple of weeks until its replacement arrives.

It has a full service history from new, with a main dealer until 2007 and more recently via local VAG specialists.  Latterly this has been mileage-based, rather than time-based, but whatever has needed to be done has been done.  The last service was in February 2014 at 133,644 miles and included a full service with all filters and oil, brake discs and pads all round, a new offside rear caliper, new brake fluid, ARB bushes and an auxiliary drive belt.  The previous service in May 2012 included a full service, brake pads all round and two rear shock absorbers.  The springs have been replaced all round, the cambelt was done in October 2009 at 118,157 miles including a new water pump and it has four decent directional tyres.  Three are Vredestein HiTrac’s and one is a Uniroyal Rainsport, as we had to replace one and couldn’t get the same tread pattern in the Vredesteins so got the closest we could.

Mechanically it is therefore in very good condition and it delivers good MPG.

Bodywork-wise the car is in good shape.  It is Rally Red and is great condition for a car of its age.  There are a couple of tiny trolley dings and a tiny patch of rust at a chip on the boot, which was treated and touched up a few years ago but is just starting to show through again.  It has had no accident damage other than the front nearside wing that was replaced a year or so after we bought it due to someone catching it whilst manoeuvring in a petrol station.

The interior is the grey cloth with a black / grey dash, grey door trims and a pale headlining, so it is nice and airy compared to some of the later models.  It is in a clean and tidy condition.  It is Comfort spec which includes AC, front fog lights, electric front windows, body coloured electric adjusted heated mirrors, power steering, ABS, ASR traction control, 8 speaker stereo, height adjustable drivers seat, cubby under the passenger seat and key operated central locking.  It has also been fitted with a single DIN Symphony radio cassette out of a Mk1 Octavia with a CD multi-changer in the boot and a Connects2 radio surround and cubby.

Other things done over its lifetime include a new power steering sensor, inner door skin sealing, new electric window mechanism sliders, new clutch pedal assembly, an AC recharge, new EVAP temperature sensor, new interior fan resistor, new oil pressure switch, new aerial, flat blade wipers and regular doses of Forte Advanced Diesel Treatment.

The car will come with two keys and all the original information, including the original information wallet, manuals, and key tags etc. as well as a touch up stick and any spares we have for it (which from memory include one inner door skin, electric window mechanism sliders, spare wipers, original radio and cubby etc).

It is being sold as seen but is a reluctant sale and, given it is in good condition all round and is probably in better condition than most currently on sale at this age, I’d ideally be wanting about £1,500 for it, albeit I’m open to offers.  I’ll be collecting its replacement at the end of the month so it could be made available pretty much immediately if required.

The reason behind the sale is my father-in-law has purchased a new car and has offered us his current 2006 Civic CTDI Sport which has half the mileage.

I can provide further info and pictures if needed via PM etc.
