DVD and CD Storage

Featured Replies

I have a box of DVD's and CD's which i need to get out of my room and i was thinking of storing them in the roof or in a garage.

But im a bit worried about the one time in the year where the temperature drops, will they be ok in a cardboard box in the roof?

Ive read that prolonged exposure in cold conditions can cause the layers to break down thus rendering the discs useless.

Any suggestions?

Prolonged storage will eventually cause them to fail anyway - linky

Storage in cold may actually increase the life according to that article so my only comment would be make sure the info is backed up elsewhere (if irreplaceable).

suggest you invest in a 2tb portable hard disc, and copy everything on to it. Then store the hdd somewhere dry and safe. Cost? about £100
