Featured Replies

thinking its about time to upgrade my digital camera.have had a DV4000 for the last year and abit and now looking at getting a better/decent camera.A friend was showing me some pics from his Fujifilm A340 and they do look pretty good even at night and the camera is pretty cheap too( found some around the 120 mark) idealily looking to spend 150 might push to 200 but thats a big MIGHT.looking for one that will do good res and qulity pics and also can take pics of cars on the move because will be going to the star trackday and a couple of other race days at knockhill and also be good at taking pictures when its dark ie for car park meets etc.also see some of this digital camera/eletrical places do they let you try the camera so you can see how good the pictures are?

quick run through argos have brought up these which look pretty good

Lumicron LDC-828z3 8MP

Hitachi HDC-530E 5MP

Canon PowerShot A85

Praktica DCZ5.4 5MP

I've heard good things about the Olympus Mju 500. That should be available around the 170 mark.

Or lower down the scale, I've been impressed by the Pentax Optio 50s we've got at work. Available at about 125 I believe.

HTH.

I've got myself a Minolta Z3. Fantastic camera. Does pretty much everything I want. The Fuji 5500 is another to look at too.

If you want to take pics of cars on the move, look at a good continous mode with adjustable shutter speeds and still at high res. The Z3 does that.

A good site for reviews on camera's + loads of samples off each camera.

Yeah' date=' that and [url']www.stevesdigicams.com[/url] are great places to get the lowdown...

I purchased a Kodak DX6490 about 6 weeks ago before i went on honeymoon. Have used it constantly since then for video clips and photos. Took over 300 photos on Honeymoon in Sri Lanka and everyone who saw them thought the quality was brilliant.

The camera is 4MP with rechargeable battery pack and 10x optical zoom.

There is a sport setting (high shutter speed small aperture) for taking shots of moving objects, and even when zoomed in the quality on this mode is excellent.

I got a great price through Amazon, for

One problem with that camera you like on Argos's site Andrew. The optical zoom. I went to Trax at Silverstone and went to take pics of the Skoda's going round. I'm guessing you wont be right next to the action but will be in the stands area. If so, you will need a good optical zoom. Look for 10x as a minimum, also the number of MP is largely irrelevant. A 4MP would be fine, anything higher would probably be wasted for a 'home user'. In fact even 4MP is probably wasted I think as my 2MP Fuji with no zoom produced standard photos fine.

I would say:

Konica-Minolta Z3

Fuji 5500

Kodak DX 6490

Also, dont forget to budget in some rechargeble batteries and a large memory card.

The DX6490 comes with a rechargeable battery pack (like a mobile phone batterry) and seperate charger, so no need to buy batteries and charger at

yeah but when your instore you can try and get them to throw in some stuff for free ;) i.e. memory cards, case things like that

My local Jessops have stopped doing price match, unless its in a store (not online) and within a 30 mile radius of the store.

Worth checking if they all do that now.
