hi guys was wondering if u can help at all i have an octavia 4x4 steering rack which has completely lost all power steering fluid have had it apart and its losing a whole tank of power steering fluid in less than a mile i no i need to replace the rack the tcs sensor is in the steering column not on the rack so does anyone no if its right that any octavia steering rack will go in as a replacement any help is much appreciated

I had to have my rack replaced on my 4x4 and on the 1st attempt the wrong one was put on. It worked fine and was much much lighter than the original but with any left lock (think it was left) there was rattle on hard acceleration turns out it was the exhaust heat shields catching the rack. Anyway I had it swapped for the right one tried the wrong one on eBay no takers if you want it you can have it as I have no real idea what it's actually off but it was a new refurb I used it for approx 5000 miles it's near whitchurch Shropshire. Only other thing was it was quite close to the propshaft but it did clear

Do a search on ebay I got one from a place in Bristol that refurbs steering racks, I phoned them up first and asked which one I needed for a vrs they said all mk4 golf platforms are the same apart from the 4x4 models it will probably be the same as a mk4 golf 4motion but I would phone a specialist just to make sure or go to skoda and get the part no and search that way,our 4x4s seem to have bits fitted from an aray of different vag cars you have to be very carefull with parts as people will try to sell you normal Octavia parts. 

so far my vrs rack with the 4x4 pipes on the actual rack seem to be fine, we shall see when i get to drive it. . . .

I'm cursed with steering racks my refurb rack had a massive failure and the whole system drained out in about 30 secs killing the pump in the process. Anyway moved to another supplier found the Bristol one and they supplied a gold mk4 4 motion rack which seems to be correct its a bit noisier than my previous rack even with a new pump but hopefully it will last. So for an Octavia 4x4 it is the golf mk4 4 motion rack.
