In car air vents (mk1 fabia vrs)

Featured Replies

Hi,

Looking to take out my air vents to clean out and change colour. Any hints on how to take them out without damaging them.

Any help will be appreciated.

i use a trim tool and wedge them out, you can use a credit card but it may break so don't use an important one :) just put it in-between the dash and air vent and force it out

Use a flat screw driver, wrap a piece of cloth around the end of it, to stop any scratching, and place a piece of card underneath it to prevent or reduce any marks that may be left.

If I remember rightly the centre air vents have four clips , one at each corner.

Make sure to unplug the hazard light button once you have the surround trim loose.

Also make sure you don't lose the metal clips that hold the vents in place, I had to take the lower dash off when I accidentally dropped one down the back of the vents when trying to replace them!

Thanks guys. Will help a lot towards my weekend of dismantling the dash. :)

Star keys at the ready

Star keys? What are they?

Also, what's the best way of taking off the vrs badges on the front grill? Is it just a heat gun and fishing wire job?

Torq keys, or a screwdriver, which ever you use. The end is a 'star' shape. That is the shape you'll need for the dashboard extraction. Can't remember the most used size I am afraid.

I cannot help with the badges I am afraid, have a search in the search function , you will find plenty of threads and tips on how to remove them. I would be careful with the heat gun, do not be wrinkling any lacquer or paint.

That's cool. Thanks for the suggestions.

Yeah true I'll have a look in the search bit when I get round to taking it off. Don't wanna mess anything up.

Well after pulling all the little bits out and wrapping them just wanted to see what you lot thought. :)post-122822-14143349144621_thumb.jpg

Wouldn't of been my choice, but what ever floats your boat. I am assuming the car is red?

You will have to be careful not to scratch the glove box, I imagine it will show any marks a lot more visibly than previously.

Good job though, it looks tidy.

Yeah the fabia is red. For the moment. Looking to change it next year but wanted a play inside.

And thanks. Took a while to get it all done, especially being ocd.

Ahh it's wonky! Quick do under the steering wheel too!

Wonky? Where? Don't be playing around as I'll be fretting for days now. Haha.

And I hadn't thought of under steering wheel. Might look into that.

Its only red on one side - not wonky lopsided wonky but non symmetrical wonky :)

Ah I see. Makes sense. Just trying too find little bits on the drivers side to now do.

The lid of the ashtray ?

What about the window and door lock/door unlock switches.

I suppose it would mean re applying the little emblems/ pictures on them though wouldn't it.

I tried the lid of the ashtray but in order to take that out I had to i clip the gear lever and take the whole unit out so gave that a miss.

And I wouldn't be too fussed about replacing emblems as long as there were stickers out there as I can't draw to save my life.

Ashtray lid is easy to detach. Whole gearstick surround also detachs from the gaitor and can be pulled free. Once you undo the torx screw and lamp conenctions underneath the "pull-out" ashtray. i.e. grab it and pull up!

Oh yeah, mind the spring things and have finikity tools available to put it back together.

Nice job, looks good to. Considered doing something like this , but I'd end up making a right mess of it.

I thought that too but just takes a bit of time and many many outbursts of swearing. But it's worth it to see the end product.

Not my taste, but it looks nicely executed and it's what YOU want so a big thumbs up from me!
