55 reg dsg box problems

Featured Replies

I have mentioned about our dsg box playing up under load before and also said the dealer replace oil and filter plus reset settings. Just come back from holiday towing caravan and the first 400 mile was best yet , it seemed the car was running ever so smooth returning 32 mpg , then coming home the judder started at times but no where like last time . Spoke to dealer   who said we will take a look at maybe the clutches or take the box out plus may haver to send it to specielist . To take the box out it would be 5 hours labour . I will not go on but the cost seems way over for what they charge per hour.Any one have an idea as to what would  the charge be to rectify the box. Driving solo it gives no problem, my other half says sell the caravan !.

What are the symptoms? Juddering when setting off?

No it only come s in when pulling caravan up hills, other than that it tows great. Just in case you mention the caravan weight , it is 1340 klg loaded and our Skoda has a maximun of 1400 klg

Does this juddering happen in a particular gear?

There are two clutches in a DSG, one for 1st, 3rd and 5th gear and one for 2nd, 4th and 6th gear......if the juddering was only happening in either if these gear groups then that would at least narrow it down to a clutch problem.

I was getting juddering in even numbered gears, even sat on the motorway on cruise control if It had to use a bit more power to get up a hill, it felt as though the gears were slipping which cost me 770 quid with ten per cent discount

Juddering is usually associated with a problem with the clutches.

Now thats a point i have not thought of.Brain engaged now , yes it happens from rest on hills, then again in higher gear , maybe 4/5.

I wonder if it is actually a dual mass flywheel problem and nothing to do with the gearbox. That would explain why it occurs only when towing.
