55 Reg Dsg Box Problems

Featured Replies

Appoligy for keep bringing this up as I am getting know where with it.Done 200 miles yesterday and the ride was awful. I watched the rev counter moving up and down whenever it was in cruising and also noises from somewhere underneath plus this vibration like road being uneven. Acceleration is good with no problems. Settle back and back comes the jerking feeling like a clutch slipping. Any one give an idea what it could be before I go to the dealer. Also how long does it take to remove engine , dealer said about five hours?, does this include dinner break and afternoon tea ?. Would appreciate replies.

Sounds like a mechatronics or clutch pack issue to me.

Have you have any diagnostics done?

Phil

I mentioned in your last thread about DMF failure.

Try this: Start the car and put the transmission in N. Wind down the windows and listen carefully, with the engine idling put your foot on the brake and select D........is there a noticeable change in noise from the engine? ie a rattling or rough sound in N that goes when in D?

If so your DMF is on it's way out and could be causing some of your symptoms.

If you do think it is a transmission problem, then I'd advise you to seek out a reputable automatic transmission specialist that has experience with DSG. The dealer's solution will be simply to replace the transmission when it may be possible to have the transmission repaired by a specialist for much less money.

Does yours do this?:

Not my car btw. Just what came up on youtube for Octavia DSG problem.

I have only spoke to my main dealer who said they would look into it but engine would have to come out , saying five hours just to do that.

Thanks for that Phil, so the engine does not have to come out but what a pig even for the dsg box.

The person who uploaded that video states in the description that it was his mechatronics unit at fault.

Hi, done as you said and there is a slight "clatter" in the back ground when moving into D

Maybe you have a slightly worn flywheel..........mine makes a similar clatter in N. Probably not enough to cause your problems.

The dealer sounds like they don't really have much experience of DSG repair. It sounds like they have not even considered a faulty Mechatronics unit. Replacing the Mechatronics unit does not require removal of the gearbox from the car.

When you said in your other thread that they reset the settings I assume they did the basic settings on it as per here:

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/6-Speed_Direct_Shift_Gearbox_(DSG/02E)

I did this on mine after doing the oil change. It's been buttery smooth since.

There are some tests they should be able to run to check the mechatronics unit.
