Monte Carlo 2011 Winter Tyres Etc

Featured Replies

have standard alloys with 205 40 R17 fitted.

looking at fitting winter tyres plus steel rims.

any recommendations please for tyres and rims.

such as offset, tyre make and type.

Am in Midlands UK.

(Believe that standard alloys/tyres will be a pig in poor weather)

thanks

You might find some suitable advertised in the 'for sales'.

Lots of threads already in this section as well if you look.

The standard wheels tyres are not pigs in poor weather if they have tread, you do have to drive to the conditions and the tyres though,

just as you do with Winter Tyres fitted.

Maybe not as good as Winter / Cold weather tyres,

but then last Winter cold weather was pretty short lived..

205/40 R 17 Winter tyres & All Season Tyres are available if you want them on the standard rims.

Thanks  for Video Link 'Furniture'

Another question,, Is it OK to fit winter/cold weather tyres just to the front?

Thanks

You and i might get flamed for even suggesting that it is OK to do such a highly dangerous thing..

But many do it and have been fitting Winter Tyres to just the Drive Wheels, or in the Case of Front Wheel Drives.

the Drive, steer and front braking wheels.

Sometimes i keep the winter tyres on for a few months, or the summer tyres,

& if Cold / Snow happens for a few days i only put on a Pair of Winter wheel / tyres, and drive according to the Weather

& the tyres fitted.

Just like you do if you fit 'Snow Socks' or Chains to get you moving.

reason i asked as bought a matching alloy and will be an option to get another and have a pair for winter.

as you say, its ones choice/risk.

Forecast is not so good and never purchased 'winters' before, but this my  first winter with a Monte.

thanks for feedback

I suggested this in the Octivia 3 section - I am still reeling from the comments!!

I'mn the topic of what size to go for, those who know better than me said 15 inch steels and the correct size of tyres to go with them.

Take a look at the "oponeo" site, good prices and advise.

Running our Monte during winter on 15" Line alloys (as fitted to the 2009 Blueline) and currently using Uniroyal MS Plus 66 tyres, although this pattern has been replace with the MS Plus 77 which we have on our Spaceback.

Did run Avon's for the first winter, however they started to prematurely perish, thankfully though we managed to get a warranty refund.

Spaceback has Alutec alloys purchased from Openeo, for a similar price the dealer wanted for steel VAG rims and thankfully they are a direct fit, no need to change bolts of use shims etc.
