Looking to buy a Volvo C30 D5 - Advice Needed..

Featured Replies

Hi There,

I'm looking at a C30 D5 that's been tuned by Polestar this weekend with full Volvo service history. Here's the link to it:http://www.edwardscarcompany.co.uk/u...01411219147629

I have a few questions.

1 - Looking at the reg. does anyone know who this used to belong to?

2 - I looked up the details of this car using Confused.com car check and it said that the last recorded mileage in Nov 4th 2014 was 45,000 yet it's advertised as having 92,000 miles? What's that about? Something to be worried about?

3 - I looked up this garage on Google and it has nothing but bad reviews, what's best to look out for when test driving the car e.t.c

4 - I'm currently trying to get hold of the MOT number from the garage. They said they do fresh MOT's for all car's they sell but this car has one that runs out in March so why are they giving it another so soon?

If anyone could help that'd be great!

Cheers,

Carla

That web-site shows car as SOLD!

Yeh I rang up and they said it's not at all that was an error and they added that image to the wrong car, it's definitely still available.

I have looked at Automatic ones,

quite a few, & petrols as well as diesels..

When you see 'Tuned by Polestar',,

just ask to see the Receipt & see if a Volvo Dealership has fitted a 'Polestar Chip' & Badge.

Or the car was at 'Polestar' & tuned by Polestar.

Yeh that's the first thing I asked, and they did send me over a pic of the receipt for the Polestar tuning so it is legit. I phoned up a Volvo dealership to get the full volvo service history double checked and that's legit too.

Only thing concerning me is the vast amount of negative reviews against the garage (although I've seen a fair few other garages with bad reviews too), and the fact that the car check report came back saying it had 45,000 miles as of Nov 2014, except it doesn't it's up for sale as 92,000 miles?!

I did a HPI check too and it's all clear.

Great cars.

I know a few Prestige Car owners that have these as Daily Drivers.

Ask, check and buy what is in front of you.

That way Bargains can be had, because others have walked away.

Have you looked at others and driven them?

george

PS.

Many will sell with a 12-13 month MOT.

You do not put it for the MOT early until you have the Sale done.

Cheers for all that advice!

Yup already test drove one and loved it, then saw this one come up with the Polestar upgrade (something I was contemplating doing in the future) and thought, YES.

Previous car was a Mk1 Fabia VRS so wanted to stick with a punchy diesel.

I've got the MOT number so phoned up the previous garages the MOT's were done and and enquired, family friend and car very looked after by this one owner from new. No advisories on any of the MOT's. (2009 model car)

Sounds like everything's checking out, but will give it a good razz on Sunday and check electrics, tyre depth etc.

Heard nothing but good things about these D5's so hoping I've found a goodun!

Is the mileage correct on the advert, might just be a typo? Or the MOT record is wrong.

Lots of garages will do an MOT as part of the sale process, it doesn't cost them much and give the customer a nice false sense of security.

The MOT mileage was all correct and matched up with the mileage advertised.

However the only place it was wrong was on this car check I paid for on Confused.com where it said the last recorded mileage was 45,000 on Nov 5th. HPI doesn't match that, neither do the MOT records. So guessing this confused.com check is a load of out of date poo?

A quick email to confused.com telling them they are indeed confused and asking for your money back is in order!

Looks nice. They are good little cars. My Dad has a C30 1.6D. What is included in the Pornstar upgrade?

Polestar.  Not (Pornstar though),   are to Volvo what AMG is to Merc,  'M' Divison are to BMW, well kind of.

More like Alpina / Brabus.

You can buy Volvo R Design or Polestar.

So it can be just a Badge, Styling, or Parts, Proper Tuning etc.

Proper 'Polestar C30' petrols are really something else.

as are the Very Limited Concept S60's

Polestar. Not (Pornstar though)/quote]

Damn iPad autocorrect..... ;-)

On the C30 the Polestar upgrade is only a remap available for the T5 and D5 engines, it's backed by Volvo so full warranty applies the D5 goes from 180bhp and 400nm to 200bhp and 450nm.

The car in the video above was a one off concept and never saw production.

I used to have a C30, nice car but very impractical

There's a lot of parts shared with the Ford Focus, including most of the engine line up of the earlier models (except the D5) so there are a lot of remap and performance upgrades applicable to both.Later models switched to Volvo's own engines.

Yep, the boot is probably the smallest I have seen on any car. It' makes the boot I used to have on my Abarth 500 look massive!

Vastly impractical I agree, however I don't plan to have kids any time soon, and don't like giving people lifts :P so it should be ideal for a while!

To be honest it was between this C30 D5 or the old Ibiza Cupra, once I heard the engine note difference I was sold on the D5 entirely :D Still miss my old VRS though, *sniff*.

Just interested to see how much of a difference this Polestar upgrade makes

I quite often see this C30, and really like its style.

Interesting! Can't say I'd go for the brown and white look but it's a unusual concept :P Only changes I think I'll make to mine (if this one's a goodun') would be, whole rear professionally tinted, full black grill with no logo's on, and potentially some different alloys.....and further down the line a Milltek full system exhaust :D

Seen a pick of the Milltek system on a D5, died and went to heaven: http://www.millteksport.com/media.file.cfm?fileid=1220

Ah that is my bad photographic skills & my Waterproof camera.  (!!!!?)

It is not white, and needs seen moving really.

Do you need the economy of the dirty diesels,? good as they are,

the more powerful petrols are great fun.

Ah I see! Yeh that's a bit clearer.

Unfortunately I do, I do about 20,000 a year and the only petrols I'd consider drink fuel like a mofo so it'd be pointless to have. I used to own a MK2 Ibiza 2001 Cupra petrol, did abouy 250 miles to a tank, it became slightly tedious to always be at the petrol station so I swapped it for the Fabia diesel and never looked back!

As much fun as performance petrols are, the trips to the pump start to grate rather quickly.

Good choice then.

Just find a good one,

and the Polestar bit is not required, keeping your licence clean is more important.

Have fun looking.

Cheers buddy.

Been clean & mean since 2006, intend to keep it that way  Polestar is for track based fun!

Should have called it "Pornstar" as quoted above....that performance in the video is certainly obscene. :giggle:
