sticky starter ?

Featured Replies

Car is being driven normally for alot of short journeys back and forth on weekends

And to and from work 5miles each way Mon to Fri

2nd time ever car was not completely cold this time was about half way between cold and 90

I let all lights turn off then turned key for a nasty grinding sound which I quickly took key out then tryed again and started fine?

Has anyone experienced this in the cold or at all or isit me just getting signs that my starter will soon need some stripping + regreace

car has 120k on the clock and is a 2005 1.9 deisel

When I first bought my Octavia 1.9 (February 2013 with 20k miles) it developed a squeak on cold start up. As it started there was a loud clattery/squeak.

Took it back to dealer who initially thought it was the DMF. Upon further investigation it turned out to be the starter motor on it's way out so they replaced it. All good.

Not sure how it was failing but the symptoms were a loud squeak/knocking sound.

Did the engine actually turn over or just a loud noise?

No never turned over was a very load grinding kind of sound, 2nd try turned over, was definatly from the starter

Could also be a problem with the flywheel.

Any rattles at idle that go away with the clutch pressed?
