Wheel bearing?

Featured Replies

I've got a rumbling coming from what sounds like the passenger front wheel area, I've had a couple of wheel bearings go over the years so I'm suspecting this to be at fault.

Can someone point me in the right direction as to which bearing I'll need please?

Hi mate

There are two types of front bearing with 3 or 4 holes as your links highlight, depending on the PR code for your front brakes, and there was also a change to the part around May 2005 that may also come into play (although hopefully not). Best thing is to put your reg in to Eurocarparts or similar and identify the correct product that way or ring the dealer, or some of the eBay sellers will test the VIN number for you.

I just replaced my rear (more expensive) and managed to get a genuine VAG one off ebay for around £70 (half price).  This was the seller: http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/partsdepot_uk.  Also found this if it is 3 holes:

Might it might be tyres sawtoothing rather than the bearing though?

Hi Adam hope all is well?

Cheers for the info, I've got two new front tyres as they were needed so it can't be those, plus it was rumbling on the old set. I'll check Eurocararts now cheers.

Yes very well cheers. Good luck with the search.

It's showing me both options for the fronts on my reg, typical! I'll get under tomorrow and take a closer look behind the wheel, common sense really not that I have a lot of that left anymore or was that before hmm.....?????

Yes I looked after I posted and it did the same for me. You need to know the three digit PR code it seems, which isn't on the sticker in the service book in my case. Might need a call to a dealer...

If my common sense idea doesn't come up trumps I'll get on the blower to the dealers.
