Intermittent clutch pedal stuck down + clutch slip

Featured Replies

Clutch pedal stuck down the other morning! Clutch master cylinder replaced recently due to this problem happening once before as it's easier to replace than the slave( approx 5 months ago) thought this had fixed it but it's back! But after it occurred this time the clutch is now slipping when on boost!

It's had a generic map from Awesome GTI and one of there clutches fitted with a SMF. Fitted approx 2 years ago and has covered around 25k since any ideas or anybody experienced similar!!??

Thanks in advance

Ryan!

if the clutch is slipping you need to get the box off and have a look at whats going on most probs u'll need to replace it

Confirmed what I was thinking just been putting it off! I'm confused how the clutch just seems to have started slipping after the pedal stuck down the day before there were no problems at all thought it would be more of a gradual thing!!?

theres a problem inside the box by the looks of it m8 you won't know what to replace till its off

Sounds like either air in the system (causing a drop in pressure) or a slave cylinder problem.

It might be worth trying to bleed the brakes and clutch to rule it out.

What they all said - Oh yes, and slave cylinders usually wear out before masters so doing the easy one may well be a waste of time and money.

If the clutch pedal is stuck down to the floor, I'd say the hydraulics are working ok, but the pressure plate is degraded and it's lost flexibility (not returning to it's position once the foot is lifted off the pedal). It's not pushing back the system, including the cylinder(the cylinder is pushing the pressure plate to disconnect the gearbox from the engine; the pressure plate is elastic and once the foot is lifted, it's pushing back and returning to it's position).Since it's not coming back all the way, this is why is slipping as well.

If there would be a hydraulical problem, you couldn't get the car in and out of gear (the clutch would not work by {fully} disconnecting the gearbox from the engine).

(please correct me if my logic is wrong)

Pretty much right.

Sometimes though the clutch will work fine with the odd issue if it's hydraulic.

Another way to check is if with the clutch pressed and in gear does the clutch eventually start to bite and pull even with the clutch pressed?

Hey guys just an update on my findings if your interested, removed the gear box today to find the bell housing full of clutch fluid which in turn has contaminated the clutch causing the slip!

I have sent the clutch to CG Motorsport for them to replace the clutch and check the pressure plate and machine the flywheel up so all should be good and it hasn't emptied my wallet as much as I thought it would!

Thanks again for your help!!

And have you found where the fluid came from?

It's come from the internal slave cylinder I reckon couldn't fault anything else and the fluid was all around that and below it!

Not took the slave cylinder off as yet to inspect it ran out of time needless to say though the area needs a good clean!!!
