Hot gearbox problem Fabia ambient 1.9TDI

Featured Replies

Can anyone make a suggestion please. My gears have to be 'forced' from 1st to 2nd when pulling away and the car has been running for a while i.e. when I'm doing 200 miles on the motorway and the engine is hot! I cant physically change from 1st to 2nd even with min rev's, I've tried to double clutch but it is frightening when I have lorries etc coming at me and no time to think! Skoda 'topped up' the gearbox oil claiming it was that but its no resolved the issue! Now they want £762 to 'fix' it as its now out of warranty! Any suggestions as to what it is please or if anyone has had any problems like this what they found it was would be helpful. Thank you.

Change the gearbox oil to fully syn. I did it on mine and it solved the problem.

Pluss one for changing oil.

oil brakes down over time and looses its viscosity(oilyness) as the oil brakes down there is more friction on the metal to metal contact causing heat and wear. As everything heats up the oil becomes thinner and works less..bit if a vicious circle
