Been doing some ICE reading but still a little confoozed.

Featured Replies

I have some infinity 655cse speakers and a 75x2 amp. They were in a previous car which has passed on due to it being assassinated on the way home one night by a BMW (boo, hiss).

Having read the 'brief' specs. of my Skoda Symphony. It appears that I can add a 'external final stage'. Has anyone done this? What format does this interface take? I guess it's not a set of RCA sockets but confess that I haven't looked yet.

Also, in the front doors, where are the factory tweeters? I like having my tweeters underneath the mid-bass (in compass terms, south east(ish)) having read some article on talk-audio. It seemed to work wonders in my previous car.

Also, also, my mid-bass units are 60mm from the back of the mounting plate to the back of the magnet. I assume I'll need 2x18mm MDF or some other cunning plan to mount them.

tweeters are kind of by the wing mirror, if that makes sense - little triangle shaped bit of plastic with a fine grille on it. This just clips off exposing the tweeter behind. Obviously this is more like 2 feet north of the woofer so doesn't sound ideal by your standards?

Right, first thing is good luck with the Infinities, the baskets are huge and you'll struggle to get em in, even with considerable spacers...

I appreciate your comments regarding tweeters. The OEM locations are ok mind, as they are actually angled slightly towards the windscreen. I will be mounting low down in the a-pillars pointed at the opposite side front seat headrest. Found this to give a nice stage in my last install.

I'd recommend ditching the Skoda symphony, its never going to sound good. I think an adapter can be made to accept RCA's though.

Understand completely regarding the Infinities basket case :)

As it stands, I'm not yet unimpressed by the Symphony and it has the advantage of looking uninspiring and not nickable. I have another h/u and a hdd MP3 player but I want to adopt a structured approach to ICE mods.

BTW, the compass "south-east" comment referred to the passenger door. Thinking about it without trying to drink a beer at the same time revealed that the driver's door would have the tweeter in the "south west" direction. (doh).
