RAM - rather exotic....

Featured Replies

So i salvaged a P4 1.5Gzh tower unit from certain death (or at least from sitting in brom storage for another six months..)

installed XP Pro, and the Folding client, jammed it into the Cat6 network.

Rummaged about to bung a few more 128mb ram chips in it and discovered these two modules in there that had an extra notch, not the usual one in the middle, but two, complete with heat spreaders as well.

they're 128mb chips, but announce they're 800mhz...

Which means........

is this the dreaded and rather expensive RIMM-type memory I remember exploding onto the scene and then disappearing equally as fast?

Looks a bit pricey from what i've been able to find so far, and no manchester-based outfits doing it AFAIK..... :(

ebay's the way my friend, loads on there

And does oit have to be in matched pairs?

Only ask as there are two other slots that have, as far as I can tell, two "dummy" chips in......

I mean, with the speed of this stuff, in theory 256Mb should be adequate (and it appears to be churning through F@H at a fair crack) but a little more couldn't do any harm..... ;)

i reckon so, as on ebay it seems to be sold in pairs, better safe than sorry!

Yep , RAMBus memory needs to be used in pairs.

Ebay is the only source for reasonable priced stuff
