control system for exhaust light

Featured Replies

hi, our control system for exhaust light came on today, and we had to drive slowly home as the management system cut the power.

I have read on here that this issue does come up, but my question is we recently had the dmf  (flywheel) replaced due to premature failure, along with the clutch. Could there be any connection between this work and the exhaust system now having a problem? I'll get down the the garage needless to say, but I do like to try to be armed with a little understanding if possible..

I can't see any reason for a DMF replacement to affect the DPF (assuming this is the error that you have), or indeed any exhaust system (unless a sensor has been dislodged/damaged during the work).

The dpf light has not come on, only the control for exhaust light.

forgot to say, we have also very recently had a faulty sensor replaced for the in car heating, it was misreading the temp inside and keeping it way too cold. I don't suppose it has had anything to do with it though.

It'll be sensor related.

A quick scan by the garage will likely reveal a fault code and point them in the right direction.

Ok, they have said its the throttle valve control that needs replacing.

Under warranty?

Sounds like you've had a few niggles so far. How old / how many miles has it done?

No, it's 4 1/2 years old, just gone over 30,000 miles - all the problems came after warranty ran out! We're pretty sure we weren't offered extended warranty or we would have gone for it.

30,000 miles is low for a 4.5 year old car.

As the car is under 5 years old then you stand a good chance of some goodwill from Skoda UK. Is the dealer pushing this for you?

Has the car got a full Skoda main dealer service history? This helps?

Have you owned other Skoda's in the past? This also helps.

Drop them a quick email, they'll call you back, it can't hurt to ask...

It might be stating the obvious but if you are going to e-mail Skoda and see if there is any "goodwill" to offset the costs, don't forget to document everything that has needed doing since you bought the car including dates, what it has cost you and where the work was done, not just the latest problem. Might be worth thinking of suggesting what you feel would be a fair outcome - it would give them something to respond to? And if customer services can't offer any help, for the cost of a stamp you could refer it up the management chain, but hopefully this won't be necessary. As others have said, for a car less than 5 years old and with 30k on the clock you seem to be experiencing and unusually serious faults. Good luck.

hi, thanks for the suggestion and for confirming my feeling that the car shouldn't be having so many problems at so low a mileage - I got goodwill for the door electrics, and for some of the dmf and clutch replacement payment, but when I collected the car yesterday from this latest job they said I didn't get any goodwill. I find it strange how they decide these things. I'm going to put together a proper letter outlining all the things that have gone wrong.

also, the replacement of the throttle control carried out yesterday has now cured the sound like engine overrun (which is why I took the car in originally and when they changed the dmf.) I'm relieved it's sorted.
