Fabia 1 electric window removal

Featured Replies

I need to replace the o/s front electric window carrier on my 2001 Fabia. Can anyone direct me to a good (with pictures if possible) guide to dismantling the panel to get to the window regulator. I seem to be stuck trying to remove power cable to doorlock mechanism, amongst other things!

Any advice would be welcome. Thanks  Fabiafreak

You may find that unplugging the electric feed to the door lock is a near impossibility, I find it quicker and much easier after taking the door card off to cut the wires before attempting to remove the metal door panel. Leave about 3" of wire and connect with a mechanical connectors when the job is completed.

Thanks for the 'heads up'! Lots of good information there.

Have got as far as  the whole lot stripped down, except for releasing that **!*!* electrical connector from door lock, I have decided to buy the complete metal panel/regulator, sans motor etc, from EuroCarParts, and go through the rather painful exercise of reassemble/ reconnecting everything. Fingers crossed it will work!

I would probably have had my local, and helpful,Skoda dealership do it and saved myself the hassle (if rather expensive!) - but sadly they closed a year or so ago;-(

Told you !

I used the info referenced by TMB. Very comprehensive apart from the release of the door lock feed.To release the electric feed I used a fairly broad and thin bladed kitchen knife and inserted it up the inside of the connector to allow the external body to slide over the tang. It worked! (2 hours wasted prior to this). Complete mechanism purchased from ECP. Replacement rivets purchased from local Skoda dealer relatively cheaply and I used a heavy duty riveter to re attach the assembly. The re-attachment required quite a lot more effort with the riveter than I expected!

Beautiful day today,so I thought I'd attempt the re-assembly.  DB - I took your route of cutting the loom to the door lock. Bought an Econoseal waterproof 6-way connector to save hassle putting things back (and making it easier should I ever have to remove the regulator in future!) All went together OK,even if a lot of huffin' and puffin' was required. Trickiest bit was re-attaching the bendy pop-up button 'wire' to the lock and positioning so I could get the door trim over it to attach to the door. Once in position the window glass was fairly straighforward to position- I had already silicone greased the regulator slides and sprayed the window channels - and I was mightily relieved when all the electrics worked! Had a moment of panic at the end when I tested the window one more time and it ground to a halt half-way open! Proved to be a flat battery - now OK.  Made one mistake - forgot to replace the two large grommets that cover the window clamps on the regulator.B***er!I couldn't face removing all the door trim again just to put them in.

So, job done - but it took me quite a long time. Some satisfaction in doing it myself. The car is now thirteen years old,and tho' still a 'go-er' I would hesitate to have to spend real money at a dealership so may be saying farewell to the old beauty while all is running OK.

Thanks for your guidance,folks.

Water may leak into the car if you don't put the grommets back.
