Sub Up & Running! Car Not Melted!

BLOOOODY HELLLL! - Got the sub and running after much fun getting "overkill" power cable (now redundant - anyone want some 170amp welding cable?) and some RCA leads too.

The process kinda went like this.

Friday night I attacked my car with a screwdriver and removed the flappy bits of the rear seats and the trim around the rear door. Found out the wiring comes down the l/h/s of the car/ goes across the bottom of the seats and ends up going down the r/h/s of the front of the car. Seemed weird but conveniently left a vacant l/h/s trim space. I gave up Friday when I realised I needed star-bolts to remove the glove box. Locked car for the night, cable all over the front seats, trim all over the rear seats, HU hanging out of the slot....

Saturday evening - arrived back from more shopfitting and myself and a couple of "in the know" mates attacked the job with the aim of getting it running that night (tooled up with star bolts and the damn imperial allen keys the Rockford Fosgate amp needed)

Managed to get the ring-term on the battery (amusing hacksaw & file work needed on the cover to get it back clipped down) - threaded the wire through some hole behind the glove box, down into the l/h trim and along under the passenger seatbelt bolt/s and up into the boot area by the rear l/h speaker. I spent some time lifting the boot floor and trying to pack the excess wiring somewhere. Kind of failed, but that's a job for some other time. Bungeed the sub to the l/h side of the car so the amp feed would be hidden, AMP on the r/h side (bungee again). To say the bass is good is an understatement. The amp is obviously the dog's bits, and Des' sub is also made of good stuff too. Even on low HU volume the bass is top notch, and when whellied up - MY GOD! - Although the head shaking & rib cage resonating did get a bit much after a while. Still couldn't stop grinning though. :D

Once everything was sorted we all promptly went out clubbing in Bude where the bass-box got a damn good hammering. (bass in the car was more powerful (felt more) than in the nightclub. Got back at 3am and now I've just awoke and am bloody tired still. Something to look forward to though - I may be "eibached" by the end of the day...

So where's the pictures?

I actually didn't take any because I don't have a digital camera.... Going to have to rely on someone taking some at the National perhaps? Unless I can pinch Dad's? hmmm

Unfortunatrly then, there won't be any "fitting action shots" :( I was concentrating on getting everything done I guess.

Double doh!

Q - sorry about the power cables. But my farmer mate had about 100 metres of 80ish amp cable going spare so I just nabbed 4 metres of that. If you have any remote wire I could be tempted as I don't have the ability at the moment to switch the amp/sub off and listen to the stereo on the original system setup.

Nice one!

Take it you're not disappointed with the amp... :D

They got beers that night - went clubbing until 3am on the same evening as the installation. :speaker:

It's really good having a qualified mechanic mate and another who is a "master of electronic engineering" :D - without them I would have really struggled,,,, and probably melted the car!
