Sports mode and pedal box?

Iv got a mark 3 octavia vrs tdi which has different driving modes one being a sports mode which shortens the throttle travel and gives a quicker throttle response, isn't that the same or similar to fitting a pedal box? Yet I read about people on here with mark 3 vrs, s fitting pedal boxes, this confuses me as I think pedal boxes and a sport mode is basically the same thing, am I missing something, can anyone enlighten me please.
