About to re-enter the Octavia world!....

Featured Replies

Hello there...

I sold my white Mk2 Octavia VRS about a year ago due to financial worry (that never panned out!) and I've had a couple of cars inbetween but never loved any of them!

I am therefore returning to the Mk2 Octavia VRS hatch fray!

Couple of questions....

I've got about 10-12k to play with... What should I expect to get for my money these days?....

I'm looking at SKODA dealers as I've had my fingers burnt twice from buying from 'reputable' dealers that turn out to be unscrupulous crooks....

Would rather pay a bit more, have an approved one from SKODA....

Should I get DSG? I had manual before, but there seems to be more DSG for sale atm... I'm undecided.... I had SMG previously in an M3 which ruined my bank... But are there any known issues with the SKODA DSG?

Blue? Black or White is the other decision.... I'm thinking blue over black this time round! Just got to find a nice one!

:notme:

I might not have a VRS (I wish) but my slightly older 2005 has a DSG. I love it. Sport mode is great, even Drive is good in my 140 PD.

i had a auto Saab 95 2.3t 170BHP Auto before and that was harsh as hell and no where near as good as my octy gear box.

I personally like the Blue.

Blue is nice but common because of that.

I quite liked the metallic green tbh especially in an estate with black alloys.

Whatever you get I'd haggle hard, personally I think they're overpricing used VRSs.

That sort of budget should get you a nice 3-year old Petrol VRS DSG from a dealer with a few extra toys fitted.  That's what I did last year and there has never been a day I have regretted it.

I never thought I would like a car with DSG but I am now a convert!  it has made me wonder why I have been using a manual box for so many years.

Go for it - you know it makes sense!

I'm liking this one.... But higher mileage than Id like.... But Skoda approved.... Although my car check says forecourt value should be more £8700.... Is it over priced.... Or is the price reflective of main dealer, with 12 month warranty?

Do you need a diesel, you get more for your money with a petrol vRS...

i had a auto Saab 95 2.3t 170BHP Auto before and that was harsh as hell and no where near as good as my octy gear box.

Coincidence! My Octy mk 1 estate was replaced with a Saab 9-5 estate, which was then supplanted by the present Octy Mk2 FL DSG. I woudn't have a handraulic gearbox now, thanks.

I definitely need a diesel I'm afraid.... Can't be doing with petrol!

I went to view that 'approved one' today.... 120mile round trip.... overly worn front seats, scratched paintwork, not valeted, and 4 tyres I'd never heard of (cooper?) so that immediately put me off.... But I am a tad OCD when it comes to paint work... I think I'm going to have to spend a bit more and get something with 40000 or fewer miles to be happy...

Then the DSG.... Didn't like it... it's smooth in it's changing... but i just hate the way an auto tries to pull you into a roundabout when you don't have your foot on the brake all the time... So manual it is for me... But there are very few about atm :(

Cooper Tyres are the new owners of Avon. an american company been around for 110 years and deffo not bad.

ive used Avons both before and afterwards and always found them to be good tyres.

Im sure you would get used to a DSG, when you say pulls you into a roundabout, it does, kinda encourages you to go in a bit faster than you would in a manual i guess but you get used to it.

The rest just sounds p1ss poor salesmanship when the car isnt prepped properly, and not fully as described.

i have had many many cars and have just bought a cracking diesel vrs fl off this forum, the dsg is really really good ,

getting it mapped Monday so i will have best of both worlds in power and mpg, standard 170 is no slouch though

10-12 k you should be able to get a one owner pristine car for that money l keep an eye on the ads on this site

If your interested from buying from a Skoda dealer speak to your local one as they might be able to help track some down for you

There was a nice black line in Northants, but sold today! Annoying... Work gets in the way of my car hunt!

Well.... I'm glad I held out!.... I'm also glad I didn't per judge the colour until I went to see it!!...

I decided against white (had it previously) blue (not a fan on black wheels and wanted those) and black on black looked a tad pimp for my personal taste....

So I went gun metal grey!!

It is proper awesome.... Couldn't be happier! 29k , full leather, rear PDC and Xenons as options so far as I can find so far....

Officially back in the club!....
