Question about the oil in the engine

Featured Replies

Hello ,Guys !

I m really new in this forum but i need your help and your opinion .

i have octavia 1 1,9 tdi 90hp ALH engine.

the car is really nice as a dynamic and i really like it .I ve owned it since march this year , and i have around 3500kms with it .

When i bought it i changed the oil and put 10w 40 Agip . In the begining i checked the oil every time when i want to go out with the car and the oil level was a little bit over ,,Max,, and it was in this position in the first 1000km after that i decided to leave the check ,knowing that evryting is ok in this case till yesterday .I checked the oil again and i saw that the oil leve has gone a bit down till ,,Max,, I cant see and white smocke or black one  while i m driving the car and it has a good compression . So my question is whether it s that normal for ALH engine or maybe i have problem ?My previouse car was Lada Niva with gasoline engine and if i put 4 liters of oil for example ,in the changing of the oil i had the same quanity .so is that normal if the engine burns some oil or not ?

best regards !

First, i think 5w30 is what you should have used.

Second, I know we don't all do it, but it's recommended that you check oil etc. weekly.

Third, not sure what effects it has, but the "max" level on the dipstick is probably there for a reason, you probably shouldn't be over-filling it.

Fourth, some do just use oil. If it's not dropping dramatically and there isn't a visible leak or smoke, I probably wouldn't worry.
