Pre and post FL MPG

Featured Replies

After 220k mostly trouble free miles, I'm looking to trade the fabia in for a Yeti.

There are two I'm looking at, one Pre-FL and one FL. Both are 170 4x4 Elegance.

I actually prefer the pre FL look but I have noticed that the MPG for the FL model is quite a bit higher. I will be driving about 50k miles a year so that increased MPG will go a long way towards the extra £2.5k.

Has anyone any experience of how much better the FL model is (or not)?

Many thanks

sorry cannot comment on the 170 4x4. My experience of 63k miles in a Greenline has cofirmed to me that manufacturer figures are approx 15% optimistic in their MPG figures compared to the real world.

There are a number of yetis on Fuelly (my link below) so have a look their and it might give you some hours.

Whatever you decide you won't be dissapointed.

Tax is cheaper on the FL as well. Will take you a while to pay off that price difference though!

Getting about 42mpg combined from my FL CR170 if that's any help. Tank calculated, not trip computer readout which are generally optimistic themselves.

I must admit that I haven't seen any real world difference between pre and post FL CR170 TIBETs.

My normal trip to work isn't ideal for a diesel being only 15 miles each way on a mixture of country roads and villages - that normally gives around 42mpg (brimming, not Maxidot). Maxidot is normally approximately 2 mpg on the generous side...

On the FL TIBET III (8) day trip to Dubrovnik when it was still a young pub, resulted in 43.1 mpg at an average of 54 mph for 2900 miles. That was 3 adults and full to the gunwales southbound, three up and half full on the way home.

PS The road tax is £30 less on the FL so they must claim better emissions. Perhaps that was in the lab rather than on the real road but, hey, £30 is £30...!

I love our Yeti but if I was doing 50k miles a Year, the Skoda I'd have would be a Superb. Both for fuel economy and refinement.

Would have to agree Nick, thinking about it!

Thanks for the replies. THe real reason I was looking at a Yeti is that my job requires a lot of motorway driving but also driving up in the hills down farm and forest tracks. Currently I Ieave the Fabia parked up and use a Landrover for this but the LR is overkill; I'm not doing any real off roading to warrant it. I just need something that can drive on a rough track, a bit of mud or a snowy road.

Thanks for the comments.

Superb 4x4 ?

I'd go test both :)

The Yeti on the motorway is not going to be very economical due to it's "brick like" aerodynamics.

You might be better looking at one of the other 4x4's, such as the Octavia or Supurb Scout.

I have to agree after coming from a 2010 Superb Elegance Estate to a 2014 L&K Yeti (both 170CR) they are not even in the same league for comfort refinement and economy.

Thanks. I have been thinking about the Octavia Scout as an alternative.

Hadn't thought much about a Superb but just had a look and rather like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2014-Skoda-Superb-2-0-TDI-CR-170bhp-DPF-4X4-Outdoor-Plus-DSG-Diesel-SEMI-AUTO-/181632686320?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a4a26d8f0

It's a bit more than I want to spend but you do seem to get a lot for your money. It's certainly made me think.

Thanks for the pointers.

Do not under any circumstances go and test drive a Superb UNLESS you are prepared to part with the cash needed to buy one!

as once you have driven one you will notice the difference in refinement compared to the Octavia and Yeti... ignorance can be bliss!!
