Eibach or similar springs for 184 Combi - what do you use?

Featured Replies

My other car (a Rapid Sport) is fitted with dealer approved Eibach lowering springs which vastly improve the look of it.  However, after a discussion with my local parts dept at the dealer, it seems that there is no equivelant for the vRS Octavia.

May still fit though so looking for options and experiences of what works well on your (preferably diesel) vRS.

Can you advise please folks?

Thanks,

David

On standard shocks I'd say the Eibach Pro springs or the H&R springs would be your best options.

+1 on that!

Eibach and H&R are good, trusty, old, German manufacturers of quality items for anything VAG.

Thanks for that.

Liking the Eibach springs on my Rapid.  Can you give me a price please for supply?  Where are you based?  What drop on these?

Thanks

Mine on dealer fitted Eibachs at Simpson Skoda

That looks awesome. Gawd I wish we could have gone for the extremes.

This post has sort of answered my question with regard to a VRS hatch, Eibach springs against the H&R's.

I had H&R progressive springs with Koni FSD's on my Mk1 VRS and found them quite firm, are the Eibach springs a tad softer?

H&R's (-40mm front/rear) on my diesel vRS.

Be very careful on comparing springs, as they may differ in "type", Eibach usually has Sportline and Pro Kit.

But generally, my impression is that H&R are making a tad bit sportier setups on their springs than Eibach.

Ran Eibach Sportline (moderate version compared to Pro-kit) on Konis on my Golf, and that was a delight in sportive comfort.

Just loved how that feeling was, and now my Polo 6N - almost identical weight - run Sachs gas dampers on Pro-kits.

For a daily where one needs a bit more comfort or compromise, I'd go Eibach Sportline anyday.

sorry, mixed them. Pro-kit seems the moderate of the two.

So I'm right in thinking then the Eibach pro-kit is a progressive spring that lowers and tightens up the ride, and is a softer ride than the H&R's/ Eibach Sportline, yes?

Because if so that's the way I'll go, maybe even ask the dealer to fit them!

20mm in the front and 10mm in the back?

Yes I believe so

Bingo!

Well, both H&R and Eibach often offers two versions.

Tested the rs today as loan car for mine at dealership, it had qualities closer to Eibach than my 1.4 with sport suspension is.

Yep Eibach make spring sets for torsion and multilink suspended O3's; only difference is that Skoda havent adopted them as an OEM accessory. Not quite sure why TBH.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Seems the Eibach pro-kit is the way to go.

Andy.

Does Skoda approve any of these springs..

I'm asking because I would not like to mess with warranty.

thx ;)

Not in the UK at least. They offered them as an official dealer fit accessory on the MK2 but havent done so on the Mk3

I don't understand the case with warranty you guys in UK are talking about.

Changing the dampening characteristics by swapping to lowering springs surely voids any warranty on the shock absorbers.

But then again, if you have something worn, I'd say do the springs AND dampers when at it.

Most likely the tear and wear of lowering springs on OEM gas dampers will escalate and they'll wear out quicker.

As long as the combination seems reasonable, and the products are TüV approved, it's a GO.

What mileage would you knowledgeable folk recommend ditching the factory fit springs and dampers and consider the originals to be sufficiently worn to justify the expense?

How does one know which ones to order and are prices any different?

Cheers
