Columbus - positioning is "about" 10m out

Featured Replies

So, for no real reason I've noticed that my Columbus is lagging whilst in "nav" mode.

What I mean by this is that I can be at a junction in my car and the map will show there is still around 10m to go until the junction.

This causes issues with the "Turn right now" commands and such as I can be past a juntion before the system thinks I am.

Is there a "reset" or "callibrate" option on this unit?

I'm sure there is nothing seriously wrong, but would just like to get things so that my position on the map is correct relative to where I am in real life.

Thanks.

Was it factory fitted or aftermarket? How long have you had it, and has it just started doing this?

You say this like it's a surprise that a "cooking" GPS has a 10m error. It's odd that it's apparently so consistent that it's always placing the GPS 10m uprange of the car, but it's a well-known issue with GPS, and I have no idea how much processing a Columbus does from receiving a GPS signal to displaying a position on a moving map.

It's factory fit and 3 months shy of 4 years old.

V12 maps recently installed, however noticed issue before the upgrade - kinda hoped that upgrade might fix the problem.

Difficult to pin-point exactly when it all started, estimate around the beginning of the year, January time.

Yes, it always has been very accurate. As I pass a juntion so I appear passing the junction on the maps.

The very fact I'm only seeing this issue now is testament to the fact it has always been very accurate - when the "turn right now..." commands have been issued in the past I've know exactly where the nav wants me to go, more recently, especially in urban driving, I have missed turns etc.

You could try a reset. Press (all at the same time) the left and right arrow buttons (top left hand side of the screen) and the Mic/speaker i button (top right hand side of the screen) and hold until the unit shuts off and restarts. After that you're into diagnostics and suchlike.
