Yeti Carjacking in Bolton

Featured Replies

Sorry it happened to him, but:

1/ Do NOT leave your keys in the car and the engine running!

2/ Do NOT try to stop them stealing your car!

Crikey. You'd think driving a brown Skoda you'd be reasonably safe from getting jacked, but apparently not. Well, not in Farnworth at least.

Reporter/editor should have read the text carefully before publishing.

I wonder what the insurance company thinks.

They'll be happy as they wont have to pay out

Oi, Nick! You got a problem with brown....?!            :swear:      :punch:      :bandit:       ;)

North West TV tonight seemed to suggest that someone has been arrested for this and another nearby car-jacking.

Hope he doesn't get away with it!

I also hope he doesn't get away with it.

I'm coming at this with first hand experience.  I lost a 12 month old  diesel Yaris having been duped into a situation where the thief could manipulate the circumstances to his own end and have it up the road with me laying on cold, hard tarmac with blood issuing from various parts of my anatomy.  These people are either good at what they do...or, in this case, lucky enough to spot an opportunity where a bloke let his guard drop for a moment.

It's alright jumping up on your high horse and preaching about not leaving your keys here or taking your eyes off the situation for split second there...not everyone is flawless and occasionally we all make mistakes...well, most of us anyway. And with regard to not trying to stop the bounder having it away......yes, that's jolly sensible advice and what we all should do.....provided we have our jolly sensible hat on and are able to cast aside the immediate reactions with which some of us are endowed.  On the spur of the moment you see some thug making determined efforts to TAKE YOUR CAR AWAY FROM YOU... the car you might have cherished and probably paid for with your own money from your own back pocket.  And you don't simply step aside and wave him goodbye and wish him well on his journey.  Or at least, some of us don't.  And, yes we paid for it in blood and subsequent mental anguish as your confidence in human nature disappears up the road along with your car.

Wait till something along those lines happens to you before start sounding like a headmaster lecturing his pupils.  Let's hope it doesn't.

Do I assume oldstan you left your car running (ie defrosting in the morning) or you were tricked into leaving the vehicle?

No, I didn't leave it running on a frosty morning (TBH that would have been a bit ill advised given that we're always being told about it).

Yes I was tricked by a young man from East London who clearly wanted my car and probably wouldn't have gone home without it.

I think I was lucky to have been able to get up off the road and ring the Police....he would have left me in the road irrespective of what condition I may, or may not, have been in.
